Junebug is my most used plastic bait color. In the video I watched Larry Nixon said he had complained for years that the Junebug color had changed. He finally convinced Yamamoto to research the issue & sure enough the manufacturer of the Mann's color Black Grape had in deed changed. Larry proudly held up two hundred count bags of Senkos & swim Senkos in the new Junebug color. 1 Quote
SC53 Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Producto lures made some of the first junebug worms followed by culprit, at least here in Florida. We always said when you buy a Florida fishing license, you should get junebug worms, a chrome blue rattletrap, a white spinnerbait and a silver Rapala and you can catch bass anywhere in the state. 6 Quote

So does this mean that Yamamoto is coming out with the new old Junebug or do we have to get some from Nixon? ? 2 Quote

Siebert Outdoors Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 That pic looks a lot like our junebugs. June bug is a great color. It’s one of my go to colors on lizards. Quote

Smells like fish Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 This is a good thread to bring back up. I was just thinking about the Ky cicada hatch in ‘25 and I think surrounding states is this summer. I was talking about June bugs and how bright metallic green some are. Has anybody got anything close to that green? Then I see lots of the brown ones here and Japanese beetles are abundant. I guess I got topwater on my mind in winter, but it is everybody’s favorite when the bite is good. I lipped and held that state record on the June big lizard Log Catcher. I happened be at a taxidermist in London and he showed it to me. Big rascal. Anybody have a color topwater to match the metallic green junebug? 2 Quote
RRocket Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 Interesting. Here, we call those large ones June beetles. Junebugs are interchangeably used with Mayfly. Aka "fish fly" or I've heard them referred to as "shad flies" in some parts of the US. In Ohio, I've heard them referred to as "Canadian Soldiers" 1 Quote

I can't wait to try it on some of our California Bass. I think it would be a good dirty water color. the water I typically see in Clearlake, at Springtime. I got the 6" lizard!! I killed them in Green pumpkin last year. in Texas, we had a bug called the June Bug because they showed up in June. the insect was NOT purple. it was a rusty, brown color. We have these in Indiana too and had them in Minnesota as well when I was still up there. Never seen a green version. Called them Junebugs in both places and they suck to get thumped by them on the motorcycle!! Never had much luck with the bait xolor. Sounds like I need to give them more of a chance Quote
