Pulled the trigger today, was leaning towards the alphas 800 for my next reel but that $133 japanlureshop price got me, hope it's as good as my 100. I don't get the hate on the tats, my 100 may be the best casting reel I own, maybe I just got a "good one" (aka oil and grease included), the best part is I got it used on an ebay auction for $77, winning!

Are you saying you paid $133.00 for the Tatula 80 or a Tatula 100? I’m going to grab an 80 myself and at that price I’m definitely doing it tomorrow.

@Bassjam2000  Thank you for your  quick response on Monday. Well I hesitated yesterday “researching” the options available and was torn between a 6 speed or 7 speed and when I finally decided today to pull the trigger on the 6 speed I’m glad I didn’t hesitate another day as the only lefties were 6 speeds. Can’t wait to get it in my hands,  I stopped at my local shop and they had an 8 speed in right hand and WOW is all I can say. I called the other local shop and was told not sure when or if they will receive any more at all this year and the ones they received earlier were gone in a matter of a few days.

Keep in mind that the JDM models get an 84 millimeter long handle.  The cost savings is significant enough you can probably find some cheap carbon fiber handles at eBay or that chinease site and still come out ahead.

Shout out to Japanlureshop! Received mine today. How is it that they can deliver from Japan to my doorstep in 72 hours yet I rarely receive orders from U.S. retailers in less than a week? Got a nice little surprise included as well! The lure was a gift I did not order, now that’s how to earn a loyal customer, U.S.  stores could learn a thing or two from the Japanese about customer appreciation.

Other than size, there doesn't appear to be much difference between this Tatula 80 and the 100. But as said, they bumped the price?  I suppose because it's new + inflation.

I'll probably pick up the SV 70 when the shops up here get them in. I just bought a Shimano MGL 70..... But I like my Daiwas and I like to buy things I don't need. Lol

Aluminum gear side cover and hyper mesh gears probably allows them to justify the price jump.

Not to be a *****, but just want to point out that actually "Hyper Mesh Gear" and "Hyperdrive Digigear" are two different things according to Daiwa.

"Hyper Mesh Gear" is using smaller gear teeth, similar to Shimano's micromodule small gear teeth concept.  So far, Daiwa only used this technology on the '18 Ryogo round reel. (quick shameless promotion: I have a new left-handed one on sale now on the flea market)

"Hyperdrive Digigear" only appeared around 2020~2021. It didn't go the small teeth route, instead using regular size but "deeper" teeth design, and Daiwa claims that makes the gears more efficient. This design is used on various new reels, including the new Zillion, the new Alphas SV, the Steez limited edition, and the new Tatula 80 and 70.
