It is going to take some time for the water to cool off.

Forgot to add that to my post too..A few days of sustained col weather will shut the fish down. But the next day after a big swing is usually still fine

Yeah I'm not going today but i think I'll go tomorrow. Way less wind and a little warmer. Wife gave me the go ahead to go walk around BPS and spend my gift card so that's cool too.

I didn’t go either. I stayed up too late making doughnuts for the Mrs., per her light night request, lol. But going to BPS? That’s kind of almost a good as fishing when you didn’t go fishing, right ??

So I am going tomorrow, Sunday. Clear skies and way less wind. But I dedcided to go to an ultra small pond that I can cast to every spot so i know I can find the fish and take that out of the equation. From knowledge gleaned on here I am going to try a heavier drop shot worked at a snail's pace, a ned, and lipless to cover some water. I'm going to aim for the middle of the pond then work my way out to the bank all the way around and focus on presentation and from another thread, focusing on feeling the bite and what is going on. I about gave up and said I'm going catfishing but ill take the lesson on cold water bassing.

I was just reading an Oklahoma news article…I’ll paraphrase:

“Oklahoma Angler Catches State Record Largemouth”

When asked how he caught it, he said he just fished the spots Luke Barnes normally fishes.

If I was drinking coffee when I read this, I would have spit it out laughing. Normally when I go to the lake, the bass speak among themselves. “Look, it’s islandbass again. Don’t bite, no matter what. Even if he tosses his deadly drop shot. Got it? NO BITES today”

Lol…I sort of screwed it up and referred to the wrong post.  But the article is still true...I know I read it.  And tomorrow will be less windy so that’s good amiright.

Before anyone says it, no I'm not whining and yes some people have different lives, backgrounds, experiences, so before casting judgement, I know I know.

Yesterday was a high of 70, today high of 65, tomorrow high of 32 and low of 25. With a cold front like that coming in is it even worth trying to fish? It's been nice for a while and the one time I get to fish in the past three weeks happens to be when we have snow on the forecast after a huge drop in temp. I'm guessing the bass will be lock jawed. I thought about going catfishing but I don't know crap about cats if they bite in the cold after a big swing. Im still learning about bass, I dont have room in my brain for another species.

Why not go, you can also go for so many other species of fish.

I might cry. Seriously haha. I get it, who cares what "they" say about fishing after a front and in the cold and just go. Because why not.

Plus my wife got mad because I kept talking myself out of it and she said "just shut up and go to bass pro today and go fishing tomorrow"  yes ma'am...

I was thinking of going fishing tomorrow, then I managed to come up with a dozen reasons why I couldn't go.  After reading this thread, I realized none of my reasons were legitimate.  The temps here are going to be a low of 48 degrees, and a high of 82.  If others are going to go out in freezing temps. I should be able to deal with a long drive lack of sleep, and setting some work aside for another day.  I have officially been shamed in to getting up at 3:00 AM and trying my luck.  Even if at the end of the day, I'm exhausted and skunked, I wont be cold.

A lack of sleep combined with a long drive is no joke. Stay safe and tight lines!

Winter is better! Provided of course winter isn’t below 25 degrees, then my stuff won’t work haha

4" of snow on the ground in central North Carolina, temps are 26  and still sleeting as I type this message.  NO fishing for a while, weather has to make huge improvement.  Southerners don't fish in this weather, we watch football games.

Well, true to my word I went, didn't catch a thing, but I got a nice fire going in the firebox and managed a cup of coffee and some eggs potatoes and bacon, and I enjoyed a very pleasant few hours by the river this morning, even when you don't catch anything you can absolutely still win

I didn't go... mainly because I was camping a lake in a tent and once the weather hit at midnight, the 50 degree gusts made sure I didn't sleep in fear of flying away... I ended up tucking my tail, packing up, and making the long 2.5hr drive home... Wasn't a totally wasted trip though as I had been out there since Wednesday night prefishing an event that was suppose to take place yesterday... for once, I was glad an event got postponed.

Cowboy coffee on the fire? Coffee makes any fishing better in January.

Only real way to get a cup out in the bush, Walmart sells a stainless steel mess kit for like $6, the stainless steel cup is only a few dollars more, you can hump in as far as you trust the meat/eggs to not spoil and get a fine breakfast

I went to BPS then the pond. I couldn't coax a bite but I felt good and worked on the drop shot more and got a better feel for it and..... I found Max Scent Flat worms in black w/purple flake and like them alot. Got two blade baits, my first ones, and really like them and how they cast and work. Plus I have a perfect rod with a softer tip to load up a nit before ripping it off the bottom. Lost one blade on the fountain so I'll have to replace that.

All in all a good day, no fish, cold fingers, but learned and enjoyed.

It ain’t worth the effort. Most ice anglers I know are out there to drink, play cards, or socialize. Very few catch fish consistently.

Totally worth it for me.  For you, that's up to you.

I know lots of fishermen who prefer ice fishing over open water.  Personal preference.

I know lots of ice fisherman who catch fish ice fishing.  Some more so in winter than they do in the summer.  Not everyone who fish is about competition.  Some of us enjoy catching our limit or maybe less then sit back relax and enjoy the company or just enjoy life and nature.  In my books there is nothing wrong with a few drinks, play cards and socialize in this crazy world of ours.  In my case, on a nice sunny day, a cigar and a wee dram of whisky in the mountain is not bad.  Getting some exercise and enjoying the pristine mountain setting with some friends or sometimes alone sure beats watching the TV on the couch all day.
