RHuff Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Does anyone keep tackle organized based upon conditions? Say, a cold water box for water less than 55 degrees? What about a cold front box? Punching/Heavy Cover box where all your terminal tackle and favorite frogs and soft plastics are kept together? I usually keep all of my tackle organized based upon the types of baits but I thought about re-arranging my tackle into condition specific groups to see if it helps me produce more fish... Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 12, 2022 Super User Posted January 12, 2022 Interesting ~ For me, having a good idea of how, when & where to fish a bait / presentation, trumps which box it's in. As long as I can find the right box when I want it, I'm usually OK. A-Jay 1 Quote
ajschn06 Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 I think you are okay as long as you know where everything is. Outside of that, I’m not sure how organizing your tackle a certain way is going to help you boat more fish… 1 Quote
RDB Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 I keep my tackle organized by types, not conditions. The only exception I can think of is I do separate my colder water cranks (flat sides, shad raps, etc.) and won’t carry them during warmer months. I’m not sure separating by conditions would be ideal. While you may need to tweak your presentation, there are lot’s of lure types that work in many conditions. Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Haven't thought of it that way. My boxes are by bait style, weight, depth, etc. As long as you can efficiently find what you need, when you need it, do whatever works for you! Quote
Super User Bird Posted January 13, 2022 Super User Posted January 13, 2022 I also organize by type. Every type of bait I own is on the boat every trip. Overflow of the same baits is kept in storage indoors. I always tie on the night before depending on conditions and what body of water I'm fishing and go from there. 3 Quote

txchaser Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Mostly no, but for three specialty boxes - alabama rig, punching, and deep winter. Quote
Sphynx Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 I keep a few different philosophies in how I store my tackle, I have a bunch of boxes organized primarily by type, jerkbaits in a box, cranks etc, but my bank bag is done by a system of water column position, I carry a terminal tackle box, a box with jigs of various sorts, a box with middle water column baits (spinnerbaits, squarebills, lipless, jerkbaits, and swim jigs/chatterbaits) and a topwater box, with buzzbaits frogs poppers walking baits and whopper ploppers, I also have room for another box which I switch out as needed between a night fishing box and whatever else might be applicable, I have found it to work pretty well coast to coast, year round for a couple of years now. Super User Columbia Craw Posted January 13, 2022 Super User Posted January 13, 2022 I kind of organize my baits like a pantry. I use 3700 boxes and soft bags by type. The two cross overs are my terminal tackle and that always goes with me. When I pick the the body of water I put together situation boxes or day boxes/bags to save space and weight. No use taking a box of frogs in early March to a smaller location. It works for me. Quote

A-Jay I had to laugh when I read this. It's happened to me more than once that I can't find what I'm looking for and I know it's in the boat somewhere. I'll normally find it after loading the boat and putting my gear away. 1 Quote
cyclops2 Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 I have 4 boxes of lure & stuff in each. Only take 1 at a time. Sometimes the wrong one. 3 are identical looking. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 15, 2022 Super User Posted January 15, 2022 My stuff on my kayak is sort of organized like this. I have two, two sided Plano boxes so four sides for four seasons. Quote
