I've never bought a rod from either of these places. Anybody have experience with either/both? Curious who well they pack their rods and if they ship them in heavy tubes, boxes etc?

Thanks.

I'd have no problem buying another rod from Midway. They ship in a relatively heavy cardboard tube. I've only ordered from them once and USPS destroyed the rod but Midway was great. Ordered on the 20th of Dec. and had the rod on Christmas Eve. Customer service was very apologetic and helpful. Trying to get a claim against USPS now but Midway gives 90 days if that doesn't work out.16419605113791296814020.thumb.jpg.b36095eb1a52606c1bcd8990e2763652.jpg

I got 2 rods and reels from Tackle Direct during the holidays in '21. Great service. Just shipped some 832 braid to MN right after the holidays this year and they were spot on with the shipping time even though I thought it would take a little while longer due to some holiday backlog.

Tackle direct always has good deals going on, so make sure to include your email address.

Never tried Midway, although I liked the movie. ?

Of course I mostly fish salt, and TackleDirect is my favorite US vendor.

I've bought seven 1-pc rods from TD, two their house-brand offshore, and one of their house-brand 3-pc for my inshore spinning back-up.  Their house brand rods are a great buy. Their house-version of plano boxes are also a very good buy.

You could probably drive a UPS truck over their packing tubes - every rod has been well-wrapped and included a tip protector for conveyor impacts.

They will acquire stock from other vendors to fill your order.

They have a good relationship with St. Croix, and my Legend Glass was drop-shipped from the St. Croix factory - not quite wrapped as well as TD.

I've bought many bricks of .22 from Midway.

Another +1 for Tackle Direct's shipping, Bought a few saltwater rods from them and all showed up in the standard sturdy cardboard tubes.

I actually just placed another order with Tackle Direct. Going to give St. Croix's new 7'3 ML 3 piece pack rod a try. Looks a little lighter than my Ardito ML.

I was looking at those. They look really nice. I have a Loomis escape and would like to try a 7-6 in the SC avid. Let me know what you think of it.

Will do. I'll eventually be picking up the 7'6 Medium Avid Trek to go with the Daiwa Saltist Backbay I got over Black Friday weekend.

I exclusively fish 2 & 3 piece rods. Keeps me from the excuse of "takes up too much room".

I wish more manufactures would make 3 piece rods. Loomis has one option and most have zero or one option and very limited sizes. A 3 piece imx pro, or expride would be such a great product.

Shimano is coming out with a Zodias 5pc travel rod. I've had one on pre-order with Tackle Direct since last August.

Falcon also has a 3pc travel rod out.
