Gera Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Hello everyone, quick question, what technics are recommended no wind, warm days, I'm really interested to know what areas do you look for and what lures work for you the best. I really don't know what to use as I try to keep working cover or follow grass lines with worms without much results.. all tips and suggestions are welcome. thanks!!! 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 11, 2022 Super User Posted January 11, 2022 Set the scene a bit more...what sort of lake/river? Deep, clear lake? Dirty, shallow tidal river? Warm August day in NY? Warm January day in MS? SMB? Spots? 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 11, 2022 Super User Posted January 11, 2022 Calm or windy , I target cover wherever I can find it with same type of lures . I may scale down a bit in calm weather . Quiet presentations help immensely . 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 11, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2022 Most every day we have is calm, wind is rare here. I like dragging a plastic worm or pendulum a minnow style soft plastic back to the boat. I’ve never experienced the moving bait bite in wind like everyone talks about Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted January 11, 2022 Super User Posted January 11, 2022 I dont prefer fishing on calm days but I stay with topwater longer if it’s calm. Then I pretty much fish the same as usual: Soft plastics around cover. 1 Quote

As for temperature lets talk about may-june warm days (80 to 90 degrees) 39 minutes ago, scaleface said: Calm or windy , I target cover wherever I can find it with same type of lures . As for temperature lets talk about may-june warm days (80 to 90 degrees I'm projecting a bit, but I often find good fish at outside grass edge in that sort of lake in May/June. When I have encountered such a situation, I like to position over deep water and make a long cast with light T-Rig into the grass. Bring it out slowly and you will get bit as it just comes out of the outside edge of the grass. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted January 11, 2022 Super User Posted January 11, 2022 Surface lures like Pop-R, Sammy. Subsurface Wake baits. 1/8 ball head jig w/Kietech swimmer. Senko’s. Tom 1 Quote

Super User Bird Posted January 11, 2022 Super User Posted January 11, 2022 I strive for calm water, surface like glass. Everything I throw does significantly better in calm water including spinnerbaits and my senses are heightened. Top water early, buzzbaits, Spooks, whopper ploppers are my favorites. Weightless Senko works about everywhere. 1 Quote

Sometimes I wonder if all we think works on any given conditions is just that and fish eat whatever happens to show up in front of them and find appetizing. Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 12, 2022 Super User Posted January 12, 2022 Bass don’t eat whatever shows up in front then. The thought you can trigger a strike from a neutral or inactive bass is simply wrong. Active bass are feeding bass and each bass is active about 4 out 24 hours, that is your odds. Fortunately bass feed as individuals, not in schools somewhere in the lake are active bass and it’s up to anglers to locate them. Tom Quote
Super User gim Posted January 12, 2022 Super User Posted January 12, 2022 Not a big fan of fishing calm, warm days as stated by the OP. In fact, I generally try to completely avoid fishing on these types of days because there's more recreational boaters out and the fishing is generally tougher. I'll take rain and clouds over sunny and flat every day of the week if I'm going fishing. That being said, when I do fish in calm weather, I target shade. The direct sun is often avoided by bass on these days because its so hot out and they seek shade. Docks, thick weeds, or deep water come to mind and can be targeted with a variety of strategies or lures. Quote

I used to feel the same, but as I'm getting into kayak fishing more every season, I appreciate calm weather more every time I'm in it. I just wish fish would cooperate with me a little more. 18 minutes ago, WRB said: Bass don’t eat whatever shows up in front then. Tom Sorry I guess I didn't express myself correctly, I do not think they will eat just anything, I just really wanted to point out how diverse the opinions are. I'm sure people are reading other guys recommendations and think "that will never work!" because everyone has very different opinions. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 12, 2022 Super User Posted January 12, 2022 It’s a common misconception imo that you can tease a bass into striking, like a cat. Bass are fish with no ability to react emotionally, they react instinctively. Calm flat water allows a bass to see very well and more natural action/colors work better to draw strikes. Add a little ripple on the water and that defuses sunlight, bass can’t see as clearly and rely more on lateral line detection. The wind creates more waves the less bass rely on sight and more on all their combines senses. Same occurs at low light and night. Calmer less brighter quite lures, windy brighter nosier lures. Depth is key under all condions. Tom 2 Quote

GReb Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Texas rig a Menace on the lightest weight you can get away with. Green or junebug/dark I also like a fluke or swim jig in these conditions Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 13, 2022 Super User Posted January 13, 2022 Bass dont abandon cover on calm days . I fish it the best I can and if I do a good enough job, bites will happen . 1 Quote
