Super User Cgolf Posted January 14, 2022 Super User Posted January 14, 2022 Crank baits in general. It’s not that they don’t get bit, it’s just I way over purchased especially when I found some really good sales. The only other I can think of is I have a bunch of swim jigs and rarely fish them. I find myself always grabbing a spinnerbait instead. Quote
Super User Bird Posted January 14, 2022 Super User Posted January 14, 2022 You succeeded in pinpointing the 2 baits that I've failed miserably to catch fish on.......Chatterbait and deep diving crankbaits. As a rational and conservative thinking fisherman, neither exist any longer in my arsenal. Quote
EWREX Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 i’ll add this this discussion again. i totally forgot i have about 10 or so megabass darksleepers in all different weights and colors… thrown them all a bunch of times not even a dang sniff Quote
Jp_midwest Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 for me it would probably be soft plastics. i love trying new ones and looking for better ones but last year i barely threw any i got like no bites on them. although i did notice that i have been focusing my attention to hard baits and recently i ave been loving the strike king KVD 2.5 squarbill its a awsome bait and in 2022 i am planning to do more of the hard baits and teach my self how to use poppers more efficiently, jerkbaits and walking baits. You don't need to experiment with new or different stuff so you don't end up with a ton of whatever it is. When you're not so good at something (IE, not catching a lot of fish on it), you probably don't do it as often...BUT, you probably keep buying new or different brands/models/whatever in an attempt to catch that lightning in a bottle moment when it finally clicks into place for you. Which leads to big collections of stuff you don't use a ton. My theory anyway. I've purged a lot of stuff over the past few years to resolve this problem for myself - But part of being a bass fisherman is hoarding tackle so at some point you just live with it . Since we live in the same state...I can confirm that deep cranking is just not as applicable in this area, even expanded out to the region. With so much tidal water we skew shallow. Obviously it can be done and I'm some other local guys can come along and tell me they smash em on 6XDs all the time...But in over 20 years of fishing everywhere around here from the NC/VA border lakes, VA lakes, all the tidal rivers, the bay, and MD lakes/rivers - It just ain't a major player overall. Chatterbaits on the other hand...It might depend on how much time you spend on tidal water around here. I catch probably 90% of my chatterbait fish in our tidal rivers, so if you spend more time on the lakes it probably makes sense . Guess we have come to the same conclusion for our area. Allen Quote
