I'm looking to buy or build a rod rack, it probably doesn't matter much but I can do either so is the ideal orientation standing vertically or horizontal? Any simple designs you like out there? I have 3 baitcaster/4 spinning FYI.

Also regarding spinning reels, I read a post describing removing braid at the end of the season then putting that same line back on for the next season, but now the outer line was last season inner line and theres no wear on the line there, what is the easiest way to do this?

I wouldn't reverse line every year, but when I do, I use 2 fly or saltwater conventional reels. Some guys build a stand, but I just do it free hand. A drill and 2 arbor jigs works too, but I find that more work.

I've been using two of these for the past 5 years. They're cheap, light, snap together, and don't cost as much as the sturdier wooden racks.

You can also split the halves and wall mount them.

Appears to be the same as this one

For 7 setups, it’s probably not going to matter but just remember, if you are going to leave your reels on your rods, most rod rack specs list rod only capacity.  I store rods with the reels attached and in the picture below, I have to skip every 3rd/4th slot.  The KastKing pictured lists a 24 rod capacity but mine only holds 17 with reels attached.  If I store them facing out instead of sideways, it would be worse due to the reel handle.  It’s preference but I prefer vertical storage.

If you're into making your own, here's the one I made many moons ago. Holds 8, which seemed like more then I'd even need, 20+ years ago.

Horizontally for me as there seems to be a magnet in my ceiling that attracts rod tips.

I built one out of $4 boards.

Took a little time, but they are accessible from the boat underneath it in the summer.  Right now the snowmobiles are under them.

This is the one I slapped together from some 1/2" Sandlewood, some screw-in hooks and stain. Was hanging from the ceiling in the garage.

It was in the way while working on the boat...I kept dislodging rods when I stood up. So I took it down from the garage ceiling and mounted to a wall in the 'fishing room'.

My reels are in the drawer units you see on the left.

I drove finishing nails in the floor joists in the basement.  Hang 40 or so rods if I ever bring them in out of the boat.

We pretty much fish year round here in Missouri if it doesn't get abnormally cold.
