Nicky Greece Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 So I have a trolling motor thats about 10 years old best i can tell... Problem is the "arrow" that points the direction the motor is facing just kind of spins freely. Doesnt move at all when i use the pedal... Anyone heard of this or know a quick fix?? 'Preciate it. NBR Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I just finished some repair on my MinnKota. I think you will need to take the top cover off and see what drives the arrow. On the MK it snaps into place and is driven by a gear. The snap oin spot is at one location only so you must have things lined up before you snap it in place. I found MK service very helpful in getting my motor repaired. Quote
Nicky Greece Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 Didnt even think to take the top off... just got this boat in the middle of the season last year and the trolling motor came with it. Appreciate the help... Will let you know how it turns out. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 31, 2010 Super User Posted March 31, 2010 One that old will have a gear drive set up, or should. Not a round gear, just a short straight length of metal with teeth down one side. good luck Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 1, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 1, 2010 Ya, this usually happens if you whack it pretty good on a rock or something. Easy to fix - once you've done it. Just remove the cap and have somebody move the foot pedal. It won't take much to figure out what gear came out of alignment. Depending on the trolling motor, you might have to unscrew a few things to reach everything, then line them all back up, and tighten them back down again. Just make sure the arrow is pointing in the right direction before you do! Quote
Nicky Greece Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 Really do appreciate all the responses guys. One other thing... My pedal seems a little stiff, should I just use WD-40 on the pedal and shaft to loosen it up a little? Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted April 1, 2010 Super User Posted April 1, 2010 Cable is probably going bad. You can try but I never had much luck freeing those old cables up. Someone here may have a solution that works though. There are outlets that still stock cables for a few of the older more popular models. Good luck Quote
