We need to get the laws changed to make the punishment more severe. In the deer hunting realm here, the DNR has adopted a zero tolerance policy when caught using bait. First offense, you lose your weapon and hunting privileges for a year. It has cut down on the number of baiting violations immensely. I say incorporate some of these zero tolerance policies on other violations too. We all know there are a lot of hunters and anglers breaking the law that never get caught because there simply isn’t enough manpower or enforcement, so let’s make an example out the people who get caught. A good start would be to increase the fines...Currently it's $50 for the first over limit and $25 for each additional. Put it at $100 per fish and put that money into hiring more COs. https://www.mncourts.gov/mncourtsgov/media/scao_library/Statewide Payables/2020-DNR-Payables-List.pdf 1 Quote

I will say that I think there is a big difference between someone who is knowingly breaking the law and someone who is making a minor mistake that they were not aware of though. Obviously in this specific case, these guys were clearly doing it on purpose and went way over board. 3 Quote

If they don't know the limits, they shouldn't be out. No excuses far as I'm concerned...everyone treated the same. Quote

Ummm...I might have a corner in the basement free. Have to share it with the furnace though...the concrete floor is cold, so are the cinder-block walls. there's no window and only one electrical outlet. 3 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 10, 2022 Super User Posted January 10, 2022 It has to be 25 years since I saw a game warden, That was back in the day when your license had to be visible. To the OP, glad to hear that the rules are being enforced. 1 Quote

I have literally never seen a conservation officer here in Minnesota. I have hunted on public land for almost 30 years and fished popular lakes and rivers for 20. The only law enforcement I have encountered is the Hennepin County Water Patrol on Lake Minnetonka who are primarily looking for safety violations and drunk boaters. We need like a crap load more officers up here. 1 Quote
