Super User WRB Posted January 10, 2022 Super User Posted January 10, 2022 So common today, anything left unprotected is stolen. The Delta area has gotten so bad thieves steal boat trailers in the parking lot to load boats stored in marina slips. Tom Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted January 10, 2022 Super User Posted January 10, 2022 The worst thing about this is that many times, it's someone you know who does this. I can't stand thieves at all. 1 Quote
Sphynx Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Only good thief is a dead one...hopefully providence sees to it that such a fate befalls this one...ideally after the stolen goods are returned. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted January 11, 2022 Super User Posted January 11, 2022 Let me know if he needs anything as I have way to many lures around the house that I can spare. Allen 2 1 Quote
Zcoker Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Yeah, that's a bummer. I know the feeling. Down here in S. Florida, as example, one really has to scope out the area where the car/boat is parked. Some of these launch/parking areas or even storage facilities down here are quite sketchy and the vehicles are wide open for theft. I've heard of a number of folks returning from a fishing trip only to find their broken window glass scattered all over the parking grounds. My best advice is to not leave ANYTHING of value in the car, boat, or whatever. Sometimes when theft is anticipated, it never happens because one has covered all basis. Most often the thief sees something in the vehicle, whether it be a bag or a case. That is a good trigger for them to hit it. If they have enough time, they'll shake down the whole interior and find those other hidden, valuable things. Regardless, it's a part of life. They'll do anything for a buck! Case in point: it was during shift change on my job. Suddenly, the parking lot erupted into a multitude of big pow pow explosions! What folks were finding out as they started their cars to go home, no catalytic converters! Thieves actually went under the parked cars in broad daylight and CUT those suckers off! ALL OF THEM. I was like, gee, you gotta be friggin kiddin me! Quote

What folks were finding out as they started their cars to go home, no catalytic converters! That just happened in our work lot. They cut the locked gate, and stole the CCS out of the 3 pickups . It sounded like a young war when the trucks started up. My son had his outboard stolen off the back of his boat. It’s a good thing for them he didn’t catch them. I prayed the motor would break down and strand them somewhere to maybe teach them a lesson. And thought worse. It used to be that people would steal to have the item. Now they steal to sell the item for drugs… Most of what Ive had stolen were from relatives and “friends” of the family that have drug issues. Never could prove who stole but you know… Quote

I know from experience that some of these converters are hard enough to get at let alone remove from underneath a friggin lift! How the heck they did it with a portable saw or whatever between a few inches of space with no one hearing or seeing a thing is beyond me....almost like magic. Anyhow, I was curious as to why they targeted the converters. What I found out is that most all converters contain trace amounts of precious metals like platinum, palladium and rhodium, which in early March hit nearly $30 grand per ounce! So, yeah, watch them catalytic converters, folks!! lol 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted January 14, 2022 Super User Posted January 14, 2022 Horror stories like this made me start using locks on my boat trailer hitch and my hitch pin for my receiver last season when I was fishing. Especially when I fish after dark. I got them keyed alike at e-trailer for 75 bucks and now I feel more confident that my boat trailer is going to be there when I return. Of course, if someone still really wanted to take it and had the right tools, they could. But at least this makes them think twice and keeps the random punk from doing it. Coming back to the lot after I'm done fishing would create a massive headache of epic proportions that I never want to deal with. 1 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 14, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 14, 2022 Somebody got caught stealing converters at a boat launch in middle TN years ago by fishermen. Let’s just say that all stopped instantly after that encounter 5 1 Quote

schplurg Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 One of the guys I work for (my boss) told me a few weeks ago that a guy he knows is in trouble for having thousands of catalytic converters in a warehouse, like over a million dollars worth. I asked where he got them and he says he gets them from various sources and sells them for profit. I forgot the details of his trouble, but I think proving where he got them is the issue. I told him about all the CC thefts and his eyes widened, you should have seen his face. He had no idea this happens. I DO NOT know any more than that. My boss is an honest guy and runs an honest business, but as for his "friend" or whatever this guy is....well I will try and find out more. Quote
jbrew73 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Tackle warehouse gets hacked and TW are sob’s. A storage unit get hacked and the thieves are to blame. it sucks either way but I can’t help but notice the irony. 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted January 15, 2022 Super User Posted January 15, 2022 My old lady hates my response to thieves. Death is the penalty for stealing..doesn't matter what it is..just an absolute disgusting revealing admonition of who someone is. A spare parts waste of space. Quote
