Learning the sonar and not just hitting the obvious pieces of cover that everyone else is already fishing.

One more thing that I need to mention for a new year quest...is to NOT MISS THOSE GIANTS! Last year I had some really big everglades trophy's show me how to cry, I'm talking 9-12 pounders! And it hasn't been easy gettin over those loses, kinda sneaks up on me, making me feel all giddy inside. Always asking myself...what if? What if I did this or that? And, yes, I know many will say, oh, that's a given, gonna loose big fish...but, oh, how it hurts and haunts!

For me it's the same ol except this yr, I'm going to get out there EVERY single chance I get with my son!

All those times when I say I want to go or am going to go but then find an excuse as to why I can't will be eliminated.

No matter how hard it's raining or how strong the wind is blowing if I have time I'm going out there. Life is too short for procrastination!

This year I'm going to break my LM(13.44) & Spot(4.1) PB's. So throwing bigger lures when conditions allow in known big fish locations.

I’m going to fish the CA Delta more often in my kayak.  Until now, most of my visits are from the back of my buds bassboat.  My style is to fish slower.  In the boat he keeps it moving too quickly for me to really work an area.

Not new, but a revisited tradition.

In the 80's, my dad and grandfather and I traveled to Canada annually for a fishing trip.

Dad and my kid and I did a spring break trip annually when my kid was in high school and college. It stopped some time ago. Kid and I fished tournaments and we stopped our recreational spring trips. I fished those recreational trips with dad and we just texted our successes to my kid.

The three of us did a Lake Erie walleye trip last year and have decided to do it again this year.

More time throwing jigs, shaky heads, swim baits. Generally fishing deeper, getting comfortable in 20-30 feet of water or more. Learning my new Garmin sonar unit.

Plan 1 is a few trips way off the map where fish likely never see a lure or at least not more than a few per year. A lot of work involved to do so and serious bushwacking with a canoe, but hopefully worth it.

I'd like to try punching if I find the right environment. I'd also like to catch fish on a chatterbait.

Lastly I'd like to hook up and use my electronics. I've always fished with nothing and done pretty good, but there are days where I need a backup plan and I would like to know depth and water temps at minimum. I fish to escape technology, so still reticent and don't fancy fiddling with a screen all day.

Those are my loose goals. I'd like to catch a PB Pike over 10 lbs, at least one 5lb bass, and two muskie.
