Aaron_H Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 2022 is the 'Year of the Jerkbait' for me. I've fished them a little bit in the past, but never enough to develop confidence or trigger fish consistently, but plan on changing that this year. Already some promising results in the past week, had a big one on yesterday but she managed to shake free. But it gives me some confidence that I can trigger big bites, just need to fine tune. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 These threads are always interesting. Such a variety of deals happening here. It's fun reading about presentations that just get No Love from me at all, along with deals that are True Staples in my boat. Jerkbaits & vibrating jigs for example. I don't really have anything 'new' that I expect to be throwing, but there is something that I've modified to be sort of 'new'. Mentioned many times here how I have had some decent results weighing down deep diving jerkbaits. To the point where they don't suspend at all and actually crash to the bottom like a stone. To go with that, I have realized some solid success using a ‘silent’ jerkbait in shallow(er) clear water. Seems especially effective after I have already been through an area with a standard rattling jerkbait. So much so that 'Silent' is often where I start now. While Rapala has had a silent sinking stickbait for decades, and it does get bites, I've been hoping Megabass or Strike King would come out with a SILENT deep diving Jerkbait - Hasn't happened. So I took matters into my own hands. Introducing my version of the Megabass Vision 110 Silent Sinker - Looking forward to putting these in their face. #runsilentrundeep A-Jay 8 1 Quote

They sink… …and… …catch fish, big ones. 9 1 Quote

Haven’t thrown them in waters that have smallmouth bass. 2 Quote

At first I thought it was a quality control/water temp issue. For $6 and being a store brand jerk bait, I have no idea how reliable the sink vs. float situation is with them, but I do know, for $6 might be worth a look. 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 @A-Jay You should take a look at these for your mods..... https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Nishine_Lure_Works_Original_Outer_Weight_3pk/descpage-NOW.html The eerie darter is jdm pricey, but it caught quite a few for me in limited action. scott 1 Quote

I really like the VMC Touch-Lok snaps. They are fairly low profile and they are durable. But I really want to see if the bait action changes that much by tying directly. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Continuing a trend from the last couple years, I plan to spend more time on some of the larger waters in my area. Wind and recreational traffic in the summer typically make me look elsewhere, but I've had a few really good outings in the last couple years when I timed things carefully. For instance, last summer I took the yak out to Gun Lake for the first time in about 4 years -- was able to find a couple of productive spots for both green and brown bass, and actually have them mostly to myself for the time I was there. 5 hours ago, 12poundbass said: The lakes/lakes I’m really looking forward to exploring is 416 acres and has a second lake that’s approx 30 acres, and a third that is 50 acres all chained together. Pretty sure I know which one you're talking about and that's one I might check out too. 2 Quote

A-Jay That’s what I like about you. You squared things up by revealing the actual name of your big bass lake. There ya go folks, the actual name of A-Jay’s lake is Menderchuck. All these years it was thought it was a bogus name, when in reality it was the actual name. Trojan Horse. You’re a solid dude A-Jay! 26 minutes ago, MIbassyaker said: Pretty sure I know which one you're talking about and that's one I might check out too Yup, we’re going to be just east of that lake, probably three miles away I’d say. 1 Quote

Yup, we cashed out, moving within the school district 6poundbass goes to, and closer to where the Mrs. customers are so they can come to her instead of her going to them. This will allow her to grow her business. This will be our last house for a VERY long time. I’m tired of moving. 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 21 saw me switch to braid and straight shanks for all my flippin and pitchin, and I really upped my heavy cover game. The plan for 22 is to round that out by improving my skipping. I also want to spend some time getting better offshore. Our little reservoirs don't have a lot of offshore structure, but they do have some old roadbeds and building foundations. I'd like to get better at consistently catching fish out deep. Quote

I’ve already been sent “a sign” that this is the right path for this year. Should be a big and interesting learning experience. More than once I've had very large bass attack dinks I was reeling in. I would think a jointed bluegill swimbait would be very effective if vegetation wasn't an obstacle. 2 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 I plan on continuing my study of deep water structure fishing, and hopefully get better at this. 1 Quote

schplurg Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Punching more at the Delta. Drop shot at the Delta. Yakking the Delta. And maybe jerkbaits. At the Delta. 1 1 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 This year I’m really going to try hard not to let work get in the way of my fishing. I want to spend as much time as possible on the water with my Dad. 5 Quote
MidwestBassAttack Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Aside from trying a few of the Halo HFX rods, same techniques from past seasons will still remain in 22’ for me. One thing I will be doing as a bank banger….moving around the lake more. I just love being out by the water and fishing, I have a tendency to camp at one spot and not move. This season I plan on moving around the lake more. Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 For me, it will be trying out the Ned rig. I've had the components for two seasons and just couldn't bring myself to tie one on. That will change this year, along with using finesse tactics in general. It will be a situation where I'll be leaving everything else at home so I don't have the option of using anything else. 3 Quote
