Super User slonezp Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 What are you doing/trying this year that's new? I'm going to take my grandson on my home water. Sold the Lund last year and have been fishing out of a 14 footer with my grandson. I've been taking him to just one lake. Decided I'm going to pay the usage fee on my home water this year to take him out. Frickin kid has been over a few times this week and asks every time when we're going fishing. 24 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Besides the new boat? Got a flipping stick and a reel for it. Did some pitching with the old Aird-X H/F/Fuego CT-HS...but this year gonna really pound the lily pads and thick milfoil. 8 Quote
CrashVector Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 I'm going to try to get better at punching THICK grass mats. 6 Quote

Picked up a 765 Champ and am going to grab a 766 Champ.. have a 736 champ but want the 766 to punch . Also continue my learning skills with my Sonar. I really get frustrated not knowing what some things r I’m looking at. 7 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Fishing more with swim jigs. I’ve fished with jigs for years, and when the bottom was too tangled to drag a jig I’d swim it over to top. Late last year I started fishing with an actual swim jig. They produced in the eel grass. I don’t know why I waited so long to fish with them. 3 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 9, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 9, 2022 I decided to use traps and jerk baits more often this year. I pick one or the other up when things slow but never stay with them long enough to give them a real chance. Mike 1 Quote

Super User Catt Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 New for 22? Catch fish ? I've been out one time in the last 2 1/2 months! Did get 1 bite & caught 1 bass, so there's that. 1 Quote
walleyecrazy Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Great topic. I always pick one new bait or technique to try each year. Some times it works out great and I find a new go to, and some years not so much ? I have decided however that this year is going to be the year that I finally see what all the fuss is about with BFS fishing. I have two combos and enough lures ordered to give me a start once the ice gets a little less hard here in the spring. 1 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Last fall I got into a very good jerkbait bite which is a technique I knew I always needed to develop. So with my renewed confidence in jerkbaits I have added a bunch of Lucky Craft, Jackall, and Yo Zuri jerkbaits. Going to add a couple 110s when I can see them in person. Besides jerkbaits, I have a couple techniques and lures want to work on- Jika/Tokyo rig, free rig, Jackall i-shads, and a variety of finesse swimbaits I want to experiment with. Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Well since I only had the new boat out 3 times this year because I didn't get it until November I guess learning the new boat will be on the docket! Lol 4 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted January 9, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 9, 2022 Once our house is done in April, early May, I’ll have some new waters to explore. One is 184 acres and pretty shallow but I’ve heard has decent bass in it. The lakes/lakes I’m really looking forward to exploring is 416 acres and has a second lake that’s approx 30 acres, and a third that is 50 acres all chained together. As a kid we had a cottage on the 50 acre lake, but that was probably 28 years ago. The chain lakes have bass, walleye, tiger Muskey, pike, and the usual panfish. My stepdad said there’s smallmouth but are few and far between. What I’m looking forward is all the structure on the lake. I’m getting away from the typical soup bowl lakes. As far as lures, I started using lipless cranks a little more last year with good success so I’ve added a few more to the arsenal. I didn’t get into the jerkbait like I had wanted to so I’m going to focus on that as well. 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 I'm planning on fishing different waters a little more this year , There are small conservation dept lakes within 70 miles of me I have never fished . Those little lakes offer outstanding fishing . 2 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Im hoping to get away from home more and go back to some of the lakes I fished as a younger man. Still trying to do better on spinnerbaits. I had fair success with them 2-3 years ago, then nothing the last 1-2 years. Wierd. Im also interested in fishing hard jerkbaits . Ive had a little success with them but seems like I could do much better. I Do great with soft flukes, but not by jerking them, just deadsticking them, or moving them over or around cover and letting them drop. And I haven’t given up on chatterbaits, although Ive never caught a fish on one. I don’t catch many fish on moving baits and would like to. 2 Quote
Super User Bird Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Something new ? A technique I've not given much time to is wacky rig so will make an effort in 2022. I'm kinda of hard headed and usually don't stray far from tried and true.....more specifically a weightless stick bait or Texas rig. Who knows, a wacky rig may end up a go to for 2022. 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Something simple. I’m going to rely less on Touch-Loc snaps and directly tie on more baits this year. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 A lot of focus on the Texas rig and jig 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Nothing totally new for this season. Got back on the river (home waters) some this past season. Was going half decent until big flood came. Finished the season out on the lake. Will find a spot to launch, all local ramps had gotten ruined. Only real new thing is gonna be fishing some pink/bubble gum baits. Working on the pink care package right now. In 63 years have never thrown one. Looking forward to trying it. Will squeeze it in as a change up and have outing that i'll start out with it. With any luck I can make it work. If not oh well, tried. 2 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 This is the year I’m finally going to focus on trying to catch quality bass over numbers. I’ve already been sent “a sign” that this is the right path for this year. Should be a big and interesting learning experience. 7 1 Quote

Super User gim Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 I am looking forward to using some Berkley max scent tubes. I really had trouble getting bites late last fall for a period of time. One day I pitched a tube and sure enough I caught 2 fish in 3 casts. Unfortunately, time was up so I had to leave that day but it still sticks in my mind this off-season that I didn’t use it earlier. 2 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Nothing that I’d say exactly “new” planned for the year just yet, but I did just order a few new deep diving jerkbaits. I use shallow ones all the time, and do quite well with them, but haven’t really given the deeper ones a fair shake. Same with blades jigs. I’ve used a few a bit in the past, but finally broke down and ordered a selection of jackhammers to give a try this season. Also have a new fly rod on order. Haven’t used my fly gear in about ten years, and my old rod was a cheap beginner model. I’m especially excited to give this one a try, as I now live about 30 seconds from some fantastic bass fishing, where I used to catch tons on topwater flys when I was younger. Also, now that we’re moved in and settled in our new place, I’m just gonna try to get out in the boat more than last year. 1 Quote
