Super User Darth-Baiter Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 today was awful. just awful. the fishing at least was awful. weather was stellar. anyways; what is worse than being skunked? being the ONLY person skunked. I could find the fish on my fish-finder. I just couldn't get them to bite my offerings. my friend would paddle up, and BOOM!! fish on!! I went for 7 hours watching my buddy do fairly well. we got his PB even!! haha. he even gave me some of his exact same baits. nada, nothing, zilch.. while I am super happy for him, it was a sour, bitter, jagged poopoo color pill I had to swallow. getting skunked and watching the fishing partner have a good day is worse than a normal skunk day. by far. January is my nemesis. the lake is a mere 10 minutes from my front door. the drive home was long... 1 2 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 LOL !!!! Somedays are like that. As long as most are not count your blessings. 1 Quote

He had to be doing something different with the baits than you were, and/or throwing them at different types of structure/areas? If not, that's a hell of a coincidence.... but hey, it be like that sometimes. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 When I fished with my old buddy in his boat we used to joke about was it gonna be a he catch, me catch, or we catch day. The days of us catching anywhere near equal numbers was extremely rare. 1 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 What's worse than being skunked is when something goes wrong with the boat or you break something. Sorry you had a bad day. Quote

Super User Bird Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Lol, well you told it like it was, it happens. I fished this clear lake by myself and ripped them on a drop-shot Roboworm. Invited my fishing buddy on next trip to this lake, grinning the whole time knowing that drop-shot would be my bait of choice and expected him to follow suit. He threw a simple Texas rigged worm and slayed them from back of boat while asking " what is this drop-shot you keep referring to......I caught one dink. 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 That's fishing for you, exhilarating and humbling rolled up all in one! 1 Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 We have all been there at some point..anybody who says they haven't are lying. I did that to my buddy in November...it was a cold day and the water temps were already in the 40s. We both threw a Ned rig and in a 2hr stretch he watched me catch a 3, a 3.5 and a 5lb largemouth plus 3 walleyes between 18 and 21in. He caught a couple snags...that's it. Quote
813basstard Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Well, there’s a lot of things worse than not catching a a bass my man. When you get no hit, pour you a glass of something mildy expensive and single batch with only a couple cubes of ice and tip your hat to’em. You’ll be back 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 9, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 9, 2022 Happens all the time! Were the fish on your graph suspended ? What was the technique that was catching fish for your buddy? Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 That’s happened to me more than a few times. It’s flat out frustrating. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Sounds like you had the experience for a perfect country song. Maybe you can take a bad luck day on the water, and turn it in to fame and fortune. You could use some poetic license and throw in something about an epic backlash, lost lures and your dog. Don't feel bad. Happens to everyone. When I was 18 I went ice fishing by myself on New Years Day. I got skunked, fell through the ice, lost some gear, and got a ticket for not having a new fishing license. I just looked at it as a learning experience. After that I always bought my license before Christmas, I know where the spring is on that lake, and realize getting skunked is not the worst thing that can happen. I do wonder why the game warden drove all the way to that lake to check the only fisherman there that day. I guess it was good luck for him. Check one person, write one ticket, at least he didn't get skunked. I just wish he would have at least asked me if I was ok, beings as I looked like an icicle and my hand was shaking so bad, it took me three tries to sign my name on the ticket. 1 Quote
fin Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 I've had that go on for weeks, where my buddy will be catching all the fish and I catch little to none and I feel bad, and then the table turns and I start catching all the fish and I feel bad for him. Quote

cyclops2 Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 If you get really old. You do not care if everyone else is doing it perfectly. I care about the other old guys having the great day. It is not that often each year for them. So load up guys. There really is a Fish God deciding who gets what each day. Be happy a NORMALLY much less lucky person is having a great day. Quote
