Newbie question...just picked up a Dobyns 733c rod and I was curious if it would be decent for finesse jigs, lighter spinnerbaits, smaller paddletails? Looking to pair it with my SLX MGL or Lews Team Lite Speed Spool reel. What other applications would you recommend for that rod? 90% of the time fishing for smallmouth in open water, little cover.  Thanks!

I think you're on the right track, but don't forget topwaters and small cranks.  Dobyns have slightly softer tips to me and this allows them to be super versatile.  The only thing I would be careful with is weedless swimbaits where driving a hook through a lot of plastic and the fishes mouth can be difficult.

The sweet spot for that model is 3/8 ounce. That opens up several moving baits and light cover bottom baits. You can crankbaits, jerkbaits, smaller top water baits, lighter Texas rigged plastics, weightless Senko, underspins, flukes, shaky heads.  Pretty versatile. Enjoy.

Call Dobyns and ask what 733C was designed for and is popular for.

Looking at one for all topwater and swim jigs. Maybe a 734? Texas, with 30lb braid.

Called Dobyn's. Talk about customer service. They suggested 734 Fury.
