Super User Hammer 4 Posted January 7, 2022 Super User Posted January 7, 2022 So, my Son and his family could not come over for Christmas due to everyone in the family being ill. So we said that if they are feeling better, they would stop by on New Years day. In the meantime, my Son went and got tested for covid, he finally got the results back today, and he tested positive. He and his family all have been fully vaxed, except for getting a booster, which could have made a difference. So in the meantime they are all quarantined. I'm just hoping they all pull through this soon. All this couldn't have come at a worst time for my wife and I. Everyone here on BR I hope is staying safe. Regardless of your belief's, please consider your loved ones. Not looking for sympathy, just needed to vent somewhat. 7 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 7, 2022 Super User Posted January 7, 2022 This current spike in cases has been getting to us as well. Plenty of plans canceled, visits curtailed, etc. It is super frustrating. Glad you're okay, and I wish the best for your son and his family. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Vent away BR brother, we're all in this together. Prayers for your son, his family, you and your wife. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 7, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2022 Believe me I understand. You want to do something to help them but there’s nothing you can do. Just keep them quarantined but still involved in your families life, but more so than before if that’s possible. Heart felt prayers to your family You’re not alone Mike 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 8, 2022 Super User Posted January 8, 2022 And my 18 month old was exposed at daycare by a teacher. Five days in the pokey for us. Ugh. 2 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 8, 2022 Super User Posted January 8, 2022 Being a teacher I am seeing a ton of cases and exposures. We cancelled our plans to visit my parents and sister in philly because of all this mess, among a few other things. The school district I work in which serves about 24k students has had 200+ teachers out since we got back and over 400 cases of students over break. My district is very risk averse and pretty strict on masks, sanitizing, distancing as much as possible etc...My son, in a different district than I teach, has been quarantined 2 times now and this district is about the exact opposite of the one I work in. My parents are planning on coming down to visit us tomorrow so we will see what happens. Just keep trucking through and doing all that you can to protect yourself and your family. I know for me, I'd hate to feel like I didn't do all that I could to make things safer. 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted January 8, 2022 Super User Posted January 8, 2022 5 guys at work tested positive in the past week..I believe they are all fully vaxxed. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 8, 2022 Super User Posted January 8, 2022 Sorry to hear that and thoughts & prayers for their family for quick recoveries. There's lots of emerging research showing the antibodies from the vax/booster do not provide neutralizing immunity to omicron, but fortunately there's still a significant benefit from t-cell immunity that greatly lessens severity. Omicron is also predominant in the upper respiratory tract with 10x (1000%) less virulence in the lung tissue compared to delta. In Europe and Israel that's led to widespread transmission to everyone regardless of vax/boost status or prior infection, relatively mild cold-like illness for most people, and much less pneumonia for those people who get omicron. Delta was quickly displaced by omicron in Europe and hopefully that happens here very, very soon. 1 1 Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted January 9, 2022 Super User Posted January 9, 2022 Sorry to hear about your family. Hope everyone recovers soon. My wife works in a local hospital here and they have 200 employees out with Covid or Covid protocol quarantine. My job has over a quarter of the staff out for the same. It’s been rough on those of us that are able to go in to work as we have to take up the slack. Longer hours and more stress are causing other health related issues. It’s a really bad start to 2022. Hope it gets better soon. 1 Quote
