lunkerboss923 Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Well, I got my 3rd Yozuri Knuckleballer spinnerbait in a box of the month. I'll spare the name, I bet you guys could figure it out. Anyway, I decided to improve it. I used a pair of o ring pliers and stripped off the ball. The shank is very short, so I have no idea how this is going to work. I used a large willow leaf blade as my spinner blade. The jig head actually looks pretty good. Decent skirt but I just couldn't get passed the ball. How did I do? When do you use single bladed spinnerbaits? 2 Quote

I ain't had much luck on single willow for some reason. Don't let that deter you though, others have posted on here claiming good success with them. But single colorado is my favorite producer year round. I've just accepted the unavoidable fact though that they are better in cloudy/stained water conditions. Or night time of course. But if you have low visibility, a single colorado spinnerbait is just awesome. #4 nichols metal flake silver flash colorado blade is my favorite. It comes with the 1/4 oz and 3/8oz sizes. That blade is special. Yeah, I made a post about the silver flash spinnerbait as a whole too. But don't think for a second that I don't swap that exact blade around a lot of my spinnerbaits. If it ain't broke don't fix it. 1 Quote

Bass Rutten Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Well that was the first place I looked but I see willow leaf only, no Colorado’s, I’m talking blades only, not the whole spinnerbait. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted January 7, 2022 Super User Posted January 7, 2022 They look like they will catch a bass to me. As far as when to throw them. Any time the water is wet. Quote
Super User gim Posted January 7, 2022 Super User Posted January 7, 2022 I like spinnerbaits too. Multiple colors, various blades. My favorite has always been the original Terminator (titanium arm) because of the durability. I think their popularity (at least around here) has waned recently as more people have started using chatterbaits instead. In turn, the fish haven't seen as many spinnerbaits and I caught more fish on them this past season. A black one was especially effective in 2021. Quote

Only a few options for separate colorado's on tackle warehouse. some are painted, not including the silver flash blade. I think the silver flash blade itself is worth full spinnerbait price. it is hard to lose a blade. 11 minutes ago, gimruis said: A black one was especially effective in 2021. ya tried black and chartreuse? Super User Bankc Posted January 7, 2022 Super User Posted January 7, 2022 I bought a single knuckleball last spring and had some really good luck with it. I didn't use it that often, because it just seems weird to me, but the times I did use it, it did really well for me. Mostly in the summer up in skinny water. It did seem to get hung up more than it should have, though. Otherwise, yeah, it looks good to me. Give it a go! Though, I'm not one to judge. Every time I've modified a spinnerbait, I've somehow made it worse. I'd probably pull those out more when looking to go deeper. Single willow blade. That jig head is pretty small and dense and the arm is short. It seems to me like it's biggest advantage would be staying down in the water column. But who knows until you try, right? 2 Quote

Black head and skirt with a gold blade. I used to only use that color at night but I tried it in August on a rainy day and it slaughtered them. Quote

My first day out in the winter in NC I started with black and chartreuse, and it caught em pretty good and I caught more good fish on the color later in the winter too. I posted the first trip. Later I switched colors and couldn’t get a bite. @king fisher mentioned his fondness for the color before too. I think it is something about the contrast of colors that makes it good. I have some black and white rubber skirts I want to try also. 2 Quote
heavyduty Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 I emailed Nichols to see if they will sell the #4 nichols metal flake silver flash colorado blade. I'll keep you posted on their reply Black head, black skirt, gold blade is my go to buzzbait, will have to try it in a spinnerbait. 1 Quote

As far as the intended subject I only throw single colorados all the time as I only use spinnerbaits in stained to slightly stained water which explains my interest in that nichols blade. Quote
papajoe222 Posted January 8, 2022 Posted January 8, 2022 My favorite place to fish a single blade, short arm spinnerbait is around weed beds. I'll run them over the tops of the weeds and let them fall into openings or at their edge. My second most productive presentation is during the summer, stroking or yoyoing them along bottom contours. I dont know if i have any blades ive sprayed it on but ive hit some jig heAds with it. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 8, 2022 Super User Posted January 8, 2022 I use a short arm spinnerbaits as drop baits in relatively snagless water . If there is wood I opt for a long arm . I also use heavy single spin with a small blade in deep water . 1 Quote

I had no idea Nichols recently jacked up their prices. Used to be $9 for a spinnerbait and $10 for a custom pulsator (both worth it). Now $9.50 for regular and $11 for custom. $11! I might be looking elsewhere. Quote

I just found the "$9 is cool, but $9.50 no way" thing funny. The Booyah Overt, Ommit, Oblong, or whatever they're called are on sale for less that $3.50, I might need to splurge on a few... 1 Quote
