I really had to think about this one because every bait will catch a fish no matter how gimmicky. Even the few low productivity baits I own like the Musky Jitterbug and larger Whopper Plopper I've at least caught one bass on - lol. Then it dawned on me. The ONE bait I can't ever remember catching a single fish on - even getting a single bite on - that I threw enough to give more than a fair shot was the LuckyCraft LVR/LV50 lipless rattlebait. I bought two, red craw and green craw. They looked great. I've caught a ton of fish on their cranks and jerks, so I thought these would be solid.

NOPE. NOT-A-SINGLE-FISH.

Gave the red one away. Think I still have the green one for some unknown reason

Like @RB 77, I'm a huge fan of those.  Perfect conditions are 4-7 FOW, with grass 18-24 below the surface.  I don't yo-yo these, but burn em, ticking grass tops.

I haven't seen one guy say Ned Rig. What's up? There has to be at least one, probably more.

Right here...never caught one on a Ned or a Wacky rig, and not because I haven't tried.

I'm trying to recall any one lure that I've tried and blanked with. I do know this, though. The baits that I have little confidence in don't seem to get bit and the reason is obvious. I don't put them in the game long enough to give them a fair chance. A good example is the chatterbait. For a couple of seasons they weren't key producers for me for this very reason. On one outing in Jan. '19 during a warm spell I made myself commit to it and did very well. They are a key tool in my rotation now. My biggest bass this past season came on one. Lures are tools. My experience is that if one connects depth, size, speed, and to a lesser degree, color with conditions they'll all catch bass to some degree.

Deep diving crankbaits for me. Soon as I throw something else in those same areas and depths, sure enough I'll catch something!

I only have a handful of them left that I use as search tools in deep south canals to get peacock bass to follow them and expose their position. ?

Last year in a similar thread I answered lipless crankbait. Not anymore. I finally had some really great success on several lipless baits.

Instead of a specific bait, I’m going to answer by saying I’ve never caught a fish deeper than 10 ft.

For me, it's a chatterbait. I can't catch anything on them. I've given up on them, at least for now.                                                           Whats a bait that you've tried, that just hasn't worked out for you?

1. Buzzbait, in fact, call me crazy but I have never owned one and don't plan too soon. My lakes are on the smaller side so I don't need to cover a TON of water, and they tend to lean more on the 2+ vis up to 40, I do better on Spooks, poppers, frogs if nessesary.

I have confidence in anything else, and have way more confidence throwing big swimbaits and even rats in comparison to buzzbaits, it's a regional thing but it's very practical and will sometimes even get equal or more bites than traditional fishing

There is nothing (including things not meant to be lures) that I can't catch a bass with. That being said, there are times when they will bite anything, and times when they will bite nothing. What I haven't caught on (and won't) is silly things like bats, tarantulas, ducks, and the like...

Magnum Spoons 6 - 9 inches. Multiple Stripers but no bass.

I can't think of anything I have thrown that I haven't caught at least ONE fish on.  I've never caught anything on an A-rig but I think they are dumb and have never thrown one.  I've never caught a fish on a Carolina Rig but I've never thrown one.  Don't throw that many Jerk baits but I've caught plenty of fish on them.

I've tried it too.  Can't stand it.  Its like watching paint dry.  Not disputing its effectiveness because its obvious that it works, but its just not up my alley.

Agree- I'd rather fish the way I enjoy fishing, even if it means catching less some days.  I keep it pretty minimal.... I can spend more money on Jackhammers when I don't have to worry about stocking drop shot weights or Senko's ?

I have not caught a fish on a ned rig, but I haven't thrown one yet either.  My list would be really long if we went that route...

A drop shot. My wife says she remembers me catching a few with it, but I can’t remember a single one.  It is definitely not a technique I am confident in.

In response to the guys that haven't had any luck with the chatterbait, I can say the trick that changed my mind was adding rod twitch's and reel pumps. Can't say that I have ever caught one on a straight retrieve. I am sure many of you have done so but if not, maybe add that in if you have not tried it. Good luck either way.

Many here already know this about me—Traditional skirted jig and trailer. I know, embarrassing but true.

...and the Musky Jitterbug . I bought one a long time ago for night fishing and never caught a bass . I did hear some loud explosion's but I dont know if they were bass or spooked carp . Now it is on display with some of my other lures .

A Flipping JIG!!  That will change this year if I have anything to say about it!!!

Tie that sucker on a big stick with some braid, and pitch it into places you're afraid to pitch into. You'll get on 'em. Shallow wood as soon as the water climbs into the low 40's, clear up until it falls back into the low 40's.

I don't understand how one could throw a chatterbait and NOT catch a fish.

They darn near rip my arm off every time I throw one.

If I even have one on the boat, I can't even gragh a fish that day. Lol

A-Rig for me, but I haven't spent much time with it. Maybe next spring.

@Mobasser @Munkin - For confidence, wait until the water's in at least the low 60's. Yes, you can catch them in colder water, but it's not going to be an easy bite....either is the low 60s. If in relatively clear water, I wouldn't throw them unless you've got major light intensity breakup from sun position, cloud cover, wind. Throw early, late.....if high sun, I do not throw unless there's at least 10 MPH. Late Pre-Spawn, Post-Spawn, Summer - Mid-Fall they're killer, at least in the midwest. Clear water regardless of light intensity/wind I only throw natural colors with Zako type trailers. In muddy water, you can obviously throw louder colors and more obnoxious trailers such as a rage bug or similar flappy creature. Not to say that won't work in some clear water conditions. Just like any reaction bait, you could write a novel on all the variables. I'm just speaking from personal experience in the midwest where minnows, craws & bream species are the common forage. I have no experience with man made lakes, shad lakes and anything outside the midwest. So much more to cover, but from 2005-2010, I randomly caught fish on a chatter without any pattern recognition and had no confidence. I was throwing them in the wrong places and probably throwing them in blue bird glass calm conditions. Find a grass flat, low light and wind to build your confidence.

I've yet to catch one off a blade bait.  I do pretty well with spoons and crankbaits, so I feel like these should work for me, so I haven't given up yet.

I also can't remember catching a bass off a jerkbait when fished like a jerkbait.  I know I've caught a couple with a steady retrieve, fishing it like a crankbait.
