Your highest % per man hour fished to catch a DD LMB is a trip to Mexico.

Tom is right, but with a guide your chances in Florida are pretty good. This was my

That's an interesting chart.  I wonder when it was made?  I've caught a DD in NC but it was decades ago.   Back then I'd hear about a DD every month or so.  I haven't heard of a NC DD this year.    I don't see myself traveling anywhere far off, so I doubt I'll every catch another DD.   I have caught 10 this year that were 5 pounds and over.  My Wife has caught 1 that was 4 pounds 15 ounces.   I don't consider 5 pounds a trophy, but I do consider them a "hawg".    My youngest Grandson caught one that was 7 pounds even in a SC farm pond.

Believe it came from Josh Alwine’s book(s) ‘High Percentage Fishing’ and/or ‘Lunker Lore’  which came out in 2016/2017 if I’m not mistaken.

If I ever considered moving to another state, it would be based on where I would have the highest chance of catching DD bass.

Could FLMB strain actually thrive in northern states like MA?

Its starting to feel like I have less and less choice but to get a real boat and Forward Facing Sonar to stand a chance around here of anything even remotely close to DD. I've posted here before about a tackle shop owner in NH saying it took him 60 years to catch a bass over 8 pounds - the tackle shop was his house... It broke my heart knowing my chances were significantly less since I lost my once in a lifetime 8-15 pounder already.

Anybody in Cali or FL or Texas looking for a roommate with a wife, 2 kids, 2 cats, and a ton of fishing gear? We can squeeze into one room if you can put me on a 10 pounder.

Lots of people make the trek down here for prespawn, so if you can swing a week there's good infrastructure for places to stay. Might still be some guides available if you wanted to get oriented. No promises on catches, but texas prespawn is pretty high on the 'shot at a big fish' list.

And, mexico is good enough that I left here to go there to fish, so if you can swing it, go.

Telling me I have just a .00058% chance of reaching my home lake goal is just going to make me fish harder sir ?

This doesn’t apply to the lake he is catching his toads from.  O.H. Ivie produced 7 13’s and 6 14’s in the ShareLunker program last year (only 2 ranges I looked at).  Do some reverse math and see how many fish need to be caught to produce those 2 numbers.  IMO, odds are so lake, region, and angler specific as to make this type of chart useless except for bragging purposes for people who live in DD producing states.

Edit:  for clarity, I’m not saying anything about your comment or posting @A-Jay.  This is more about the posting from Josh.

It's all good and I agree with you @RDB.  Never fished that place but have done some damage in Mexico over the past few years.

Having never seen any 'charts' done for big smaliies, but I'd be willing to guess the odds are even smaller.

I know that there's a lot of factors that come into play when comes to catching big bass on an regular basis. I was one of the lucky ones who had a dad who let his son tag along and use either his or his partners boat while they pre-fished for their next tournament. With that being said at age 10 I had already caught at least two 5 lbs Bass because my dad had it mounted for me. At 12 I won a small Big Bass tournament at the landing where we had a camp on Toledo bend with a 7.9 lbs. Then at 13 I caught an 8 lbs on Lake Fork. Now that stayed my PB until 3 years ago when I really got back into fishing. I'm 48 now and I can say that from the time I was 18 till I was 45 I probably didn't go fishing 10 times a year. However, in the last 3 years I have fished 2 small lakes one is 400 Acers and the other is 40 Acers both were stocked with Florida Bass in 2013. In the last 3 years out of these 2 lakes I have caught more Bass over 5 lbs than my dad did in his whole life. The first year my PB was 9 lbs  and the guy I fished with just about every time caught 6 bass over 8 lbs one over 10 lbs and one almost 12 lbs. Needless to say I got back into fishing and I go at least 3 times a week. Since August 2021 I've only fished the small 40 Acer lake and my first morning back in town I cought a 11 lbs for my PB at the time. This year during the spawn I caught a new PB at 12 lbs. In this little 40 Acer lake from August 2021 until now I've got 93 pictures of Bass I've caught over 5 lbs and there's been over a dozen I didn't get pictures of due to the weather. I will have to say I've fished a lot last year. This year the month of October I fished 19 days and I have documented 24 Bass over 5 lbs.
