Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 3, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 3, 2022 You never carry a pocket knife??? It’s a miracle you’ve made it to this point without one Any of them are good, I learned a long time ago not to carry a sentimental one every day This one is $5 from wal mart. I even leave it in my pocket while swimming in the ocean. I have much better ones but they stay at home in a wooden box . Opening with one hand is a big advantage 4 Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted January 3, 2022 Super User Posted January 3, 2022 Victorinox alox Cadet is my everyday carry... Swiss Army 7 alox my outdoor yard, garden, fishing carry. oe 2 Quote
bigspirit Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 Kershaw or Buck have been my go to. Would love a Benchmade but I have a tendency to make pocket knives disappear so can’t bring myself to pull the trigger. Specifically, the Kershaw Leek is one of my favorites. Very slim and light weight. 2 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 I feel naked if I leave the house without my knife. A fixed blade is pretty nice so you don’t have to dig in your pocket every time you need to retie. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted January 3, 2022 Super User Posted January 3, 2022 A scissors will work fine to cut fishing line too. I keep two of them in my boat at all times. One in a slot at the console and another in a slot at the bow. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 3, 2022 Super User Posted January 3, 2022 I carry two at all times . A Swiss Army Knife which if I could only have one knife that would be it and a cheap sanrenmu that clips in the pocket and is one-handed opening . When fishing the one hand knife is a must have . Also a Leatherman on my belt so I carry three knives . Quote
Ppennin986 Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 I like to keep a small multi tool with me Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 3, 2022 Super User Posted January 3, 2022 Top one is always in my right-front pocket, bottom one always in the left-front pocket. 3 Quote
EWREX Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 kershaws are great and fairly inexpensive. i feel like a part of my body is missing when i leave it at home Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted January 3, 2022 Super User Posted January 3, 2022 Case stockman is my fave. Medium size. 2 Quote
Bass Rutten Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 Knife file and scissors, just over 2 inches long, I keep it on a lanyard around my neck, small, light, cheap and always right there, very convenient. 2 Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 What are you looking to spend? Can recommend lots of high end knives but if you’re after more of a budget knife I have found these to be very good quality for the price: https://www.bladehq.com/item--CIVIVI-Elementum-Liner-Lock-Knife--114184 Quote
padlin Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 I got used to carrying a Victorinox Tinker when I worked, as I have 4 of them one stays with my tackle but it's seldom used. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 3, 2022 Super User Posted January 3, 2022 Uncle Henry and Swiss Army any time I am out and more in the boat. 2 Quote
Super User ATA Posted January 3, 2022 Super User Posted January 3, 2022 That cobalt multi tool is at my belt always and thats Swiss knife is my home keys(sometimes I leave them in my truck). and this are not the knives that I have in each bag pack and each tackle box Guys the multi tools are very handy when fishing, I never been out fishing that I didn't reach and use that. 1 Quote
fin Posted January 3, 2022 Posted January 3, 2022 I don’t even carry a knife. I have a drawer full of them, but I don’t see why anyone who fishes C&R needs one to fish, other than just to have one in case of emergency. I use braid so I keep a pair of very small scissors in my pack, but I use a mono leader, so most of the time I’m just using fingernail clippers. Quote

Just by reading what you wrote, the reason to carry the knife in your pocket while c and r fishing is so you won’t have to have the scissors in your pack 1 Quote

I’ve had a bunch of kershaws, never had one break but I’ve lost a few. The ones with assisted opening are nice when you’re holding something with one hand. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 3, 2022 Super User Posted January 3, 2022 Not exactly reasonable but well worth it. It has saved me more times than I can count. Leatherman Signal Another option for a good somewhat inexpensive knife is Opinel. Quote

I only use the scissors when I change a leader, which isn’t very often. I’m just saying you can get by without a knife, they are not totally necessary. I’m a nut about keeping what I carry down to a bare minimum. I don’t need the extra weight or stuff to dig through in my pack. Quote

Haha. I’ve never had a problem cutting braid with a knife. In fact I can cut right through it with rip rap 1 1 Quote

The only downside is they are kind of dangerous to keep in my pocket ? Quote

Also, some kids scissors come with a plastic cover, then no need for the rubber band. 1 Quote
