The big tackle promotion shows where several Pro’s are putting seminars and demonstrating tackle and lures in the Hog Troff, a large long glass tank filled with bass. The tank will have dozens of anglers with their noses pressed against the glass and hanging on every word the Pro saying.

following demo or seminar the anglers rush to buy the products, gotta get there before they are all gone.

Amazing herd mentality.

I will admit though, that I will NOT buy certain things simply because of who endorses it or has their stamp on it. It's petty, I know, but there are just certain folks I refuse to give my money to.

I agree with you about that. There is one pro I absolutely will not buy anything he endorses.

If I run into one of them at a cafe or convince store or boat launch or Brookshire Brothers & they tell me they're killing em on a color or lure I don't have...guess what I'm buying!

You've fished TB long enough. Shouldn't you be telling the pro's the go to bait?

No. I think a few people have influenced me but not on specific products:

 

Greg Blanchard unknowingly got me into kayak fishing.

 

Watching Brendan Miller make a plastic mold out of plaster of Paris got me to try making my own plastics.

 

I'd say Glenn has been a big influence because I've watched so many of his videos.

 

I have bought most of my rods and reels based on members' advice here at BassResource.

Oh the Googans showed me how to cast off the top level of a parking garage, though I haven't tried it.

 

Actually I must admit, one of those guys (1Rod1Reel) got me into exploring new places for bank fishing awhile back. He's a spaz but I watch him sometimes. Brendan Miller likes to explore too and isn't afraid to target different species.

I use to eat beef jerky in the boat but I switched to caviar because it's cheaper.

When I worked at Cabela's, I was always amazed at the junk that could be sold by just having a looping video of it catching fish.

 

Similar to the hog trough, the store in KC has the aquariums right next to the fishing department. Whenever we were tasked with moving a certain product, I'd tie it to a rod and get a crowd gathered around the tank and just swing the bait back and forth in front of the glass. The fish would dart wildly back and forth, snapping at the bait on the other side of the glass and we'd sell a bunch of those baits directly after that. I tried the same thing with a big, bank sinker and the fish had the same reaction.

There are a few pros I like to watch on yt for sure, but I don't buy stuff because of their opinions.

 

I fish for multiple reasons, but none of them have to do with making money.

 

Pro fishing is little more than one big ad.

 

They're not professional fishermen, but I WILL say that I will NEVER buy anything from the googan squad brand.  Buncha lying douchebags.

A lot of soft plastic manufacturers have pros names associated to color patterns. If it’s a good pattern tough to get around that. Martin, Ike, Skeet, Nixon…..all have colors. Those guys probably don’t even fish them.

I don't follow pro fishing at all, so it doesn't influence my purchases in the least.  

 

However, if some random guy online is showing off a new rod he had to travel to Japan, hike up to a mountain cave, and buy from the hermit living in it, now that will get my ears pricked up.

There’s something to be said about a pro that is on the water as many days a year as they are.  They know what works where and when.  Their livelihoods depend on it.  The problem is sponsorship.  They are also paid to promote products.  Take plastics for example.  A bait like a Senko.  Every soft bait maker makes a Senko knockoff.  Obviously Yamamoto sponsored pros throw Senkos but how about the others?  Are they really their sponsors knockoff or are they secretly a Senko.  ?

I would have to say in general I’ve been influenced by “pros” (although I don’t consider Googans pros). I got back into fishing because of Lunkers and LFG as well as Scott Martin and B Lat.  But since then I obviously look for information in a ton of places, like here, and various other sources. When I first started I’d make more impulse purchases based on what I might have seen someone using but have since found what works for me and I try to stick with just that. Every now and then I may go check out a single bait I’ve seen in a video or a certain way to rig a technique, but I don’t buy things just because I see someone one on a screen anymore as I did when I first got started back into fishing.

it is a phenomenal bait that’s bailed me out on multiple occasions. granted i’ve also caught probably just as many dropshotting on a zoom finesse worm.

I'll pay attention when I see they are on a body of water and water conditions similar to what I fish. Even then I'll really only pay attention to the technique, profile and color/shade of the bait they are catching them on. From there I usually come here and search for a better scoop on the setups.

Well, that's my primary DS pastic...so unless someone gifts me some, I think I'll skip the flatworms...though being Berkley does give them a heads up

 

Zoom and Berkley probably comprise 80% of my plastics.
