Any new species, or new tactics for the species you normally chase on your radars for the new year?

This might be the year I get up to @TnRiver46 neck of the woods and catch a smallmouth finally. There’s a better chance of it than the last 5 years or so anyway…

Id like to take a couple speckled perch trips this year.  Should of thought of it when I was off for 2 weeks. There’s a pond full of em 3 miles from here.

He's south of us...a long, long way south...but he's north of you. 

Another example of how geographically spread out we are, and how different how we fish - even for the same species - needs to be.

i don’t throw expensive plugs so I’m not using wire. 

Any time I'm fishing my Cat spot it's always a toss up as to what's biting. Gar are super fun to fight but I don't enjoy unhooking them lol

 

I think the new thing I'm going to try this year is actually knowing how the heck to catch a fish when I get going this season. I had such little knowledge and gear when I started, now I've dialed in what I like so far, and I'm getting results. Just want to hit the ground running when I get back to town, since I spent probably 75-80% of prime bassin' times last year figuring out how.

Yea I know what you mean! There’s been a few times I had to unhook them with a long stick and my boots haha. Those fish give up under no circumstances

As of right now, Okeechobee.  We went to Kissimmee 2 years ago and Okeechobee last year.  We decided to head back to Okeechobee this year but we had to wait until my buddy got his schedule finalized and now we can’t get rooms at Roland’s for the entire week.  We are looking at staying at a Hampton on the North end of the lake and fishing up there the beginning of the week and then going to Roland’s for the rest of the week to fish the southern end.

I'm going to do more sunfish and crappie fishing this year.  Last year I didn't catch any crappie, and all of my sunfish were bycatches.
