Mr. Aquarium Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Got 3 days of fishing cuz of the New Year. Super pumped. Last week it was cold, 30s. This week has been mid 40s cloudy, night in the 40s high 30s dead calm. This weekend,50s 10-20mph winds and rain. last time I fished 2 weeks ago was 41-43 degree water Curious what you guys throwing during a brief warm up. Fishing different ponds each day. I’m hoping to get in 6 ponds this weekend. game plan is to toss some swimbaits in shallow ponds looking for a bigger bite. Learning the jerkbait game! Hoping this warm up gets the shallow ponds warmer! 1 Quote

WVU-SCPA Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Decided to mix it up with tomorrow's forcast and do something I haven't done in years. Bucket of shiners with Dad to chase toothy critters. Sure we will bump into some bass and I'll probably toss a ned around to pass the time. 2 Quote

Caught this 6 pounder on one of these Sweet Craws T-rigged and pitched into a pine tree top a few weeks ago. 40 degree surface temp. Pitchin shallow wood can be productive anytime the water isn't hard. Fairly calm sunny afternoons are best when it's cold. 5 Quote

The place I was thinking of, is shallow with a small old creek bed that snakes it’s way through 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted December 30, 2021 Super User Posted December 30, 2021 Super Fluke & MB 110 fished fast and shallow has been working for me. Wednesday I had 60 degree water which is 10+ degrees warmer than our normal winter temps. I'm gonna try a Jackhammer & 8" Bull Shad up shallow tomorrow in the wind & rain. Quote

Pitch it into the nastiest tangles you can find. Shallow wood with deeper water close by is best. 1 Quote

Mr. Aquarium Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 Place is small to, like 20 acres, very weedy. Big bass and pickerel The creek Channel will be like 4 feet on either side then 14 feet in the middle. Stumps everywhere 2 Quote

Big bass and pickerel I just left a place very similar to this. These temps have extended the weed's life way past usual. They're half dead but standing tall still, and it's still a royal PIA to throw anything with trebles. My fingernails are green from picking off algae. Didn't matter much because a flock of ducks and more swans than I've ever witnessed there just kept blowing up my spots. People must be feeding the swans because they kept swimming right up to where I was wading and staring me down. Like 5 feet away. I lasted an hour then split. My best guess is that if magic is to be found it'll happen on Sunday because of 3 straight days of high night time temps. Supposed to be some decent wind too. Good chance the rain all day on Saturday will blow that up though. It's often a bad omen here. Shuts 'em down the following day most times. Quote

The weeds are brutal but there’s been healthy living weeds at every spot I’ve fished recently 17 minutes ago, the reel ess said: All the usual winter stuff. The blade bait has been the ticket. Yea usually it’s a good bait but recently I need to basically snag them on a blade bait, they won’t eat it 24 minutes ago, Bird said: Enticing, you need to get out there. I’ve caught a lot of nice fish, my buddy has a few 8s from here. I know for a fact that I can and probably will get my personal best from here. But winter game tho. Idk how good it is in the winter Quote

I have had a lot of big bites on a heavy swim jig w/ a 5" swimbait trailer. Stays near the bottom, good sized meal, weedless, can reel pump to get reaction strikes or bang it off the stumps. I'd add it to my list if I was heading there. scott 1 Quote

I'd start by pitching a T rig to wood along the edges of that creek channel. Wood choked with weeds is even better. Good luck. Let us know how you do. 2 Quote

Stumps everywhere Classic ? Two setups: Jig-n-Craw & Texas Rigged Craw Worm. Target every stump on both the inside & outside bend. Set your boat up in the middle of the channel & work slowly down hill. 5 Quote
