And...at 73 it gets even funnier. I tend to forget small things, like where the hell did I put my dang glasses, ect. Went to store the other day, and forgot my wallet, went through the checkout, and no wallet=no money. Ya know how embarrassing that is. ? The good side is, I can still fish, and drive a golf ball 240 yards on the fly, even with my bad back. I try to stay tough mentally. 3 Quote
Super User gim Posted December 31, 2021 Super User Posted December 31, 2021 So at what point does one go from “losing it” to completely “lost it?” Asking for a friend. 1 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 Have you ever found yourself sitting on the edge of your bed with one sock in your hand , asking your wife what you came in here for ? 1 Quote

I hope to never be able to answer that. IMHO, lost it would be that the person isn't able to totally function without the aid of a normal person to look out for them. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 31, 2021 Author Super User Posted December 31, 2021 My mom had gotten pretty close when she passed away at 96. She had almost no short term memory, but had some long term. But she could still play the piano beautifully right to the end , and never forgot my name, my wifes name, and 2 of the grandkids. And she never got frustrated at all with her condition, she would just laugh at herself, which I understand is rare for that condition. She got sweeter and sweeter the more her mind went away. 3 Quote

That’s great! I’ve seen it go the other way too often. When the memory is gone, the person becomes very mean. I deal with it 8-5 Monday - Friday but my mom had to deal with much worse when her ex husband got dimentia. He even knocked out a female nurse after being admitted to a facility 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted January 1, 2022 Super User Posted January 1, 2022 So, to add a bit of, this ain't funny any more. 3 nights ago, the wife made hashbrowns and eggs for dinner, which was and always is tasty, anyway, last night I was thinking about that nights dinner, the scary thing was I could not for the life of me remember what the shredded potatoes were, then this morning it dawned on me, it's hashbrowns. This was not the first time this has happened. Even a couple years ago, I never forgot stuff like this. Very frustrating at times. Gotta stay tough in the golden years. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted January 1, 2022 Author Super User Posted January 1, 2022 Yeah , I had a friend show me his drone and watched it fly around and watch the camera out of it , etc. I was telling someone about it and couldn’t for the life of me remember what it was called ( drone). What was extra weird is that he said he knew exactly what I was talking about, but he couldn’t remember the name of it either. We just shook our heads and changed the subject… Quote

livin2fish Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 At 81 there are often moments during the telling of a story when the punch line goes right out of my mind. I just laugh and say, "well, in the middle of the night I will remember, would you like me to call you". 2 2 Quote
