Mbirdsley Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 The 1/8 thru 3/8 poison tail mold just arrived from lure parts online today. It will go with its bigger brother that makes the 1/2 oz through 1 oz poison tail jigs. The bigger molds serves as pretty good punching jig along with a swim bait mold . I bought the smaller one mainly to make 3/8 oz swim jigs. I also want to possibly mess around with making a swim jig with a light wire hook for the 1/8 and 1/4 sizes I noticed that it looks like the 1/8 size can’t be made weed less. At first I had thought that do-it had forgotten to machine the the pin slot. However, after looking at the stock photos on the net those molds also lack a machine notch to put a pin. 1/8 I guess would be tiny to try and put a weed guard in. only about 3 more months until the ice is gone. I have bass fishing in the brain bad Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 30, 2021 Global Moderator Posted December 30, 2021 I have some necked down weedguard pins I got from @cadman I believe? One set is small enough that it only takes 1-2 weedguard fibers to fill the hole. It works great for my 1/8oz snootie jig mold. The bigger ones take about 8 weedguard fibers to fill the hole and work really well for my 1/4oz snootie jig heads to make my own version of a Bitsy Bug jig. 3 Quote

Thanks maybe I’ll shoot cadman a email and see if he has any available Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 30, 2021 Super User Posted December 30, 2021 The reducer pins won't work. The slot on the 1/8oz is made for an FG-12 weed guard which is 5/64" in diameter or .078". Go here - PTFE Wire | Contenti - and order the .078" and then cut it into 1.5" - 2" pins. This stuff is the same as Teflon, but Teflon is a brand name so they just call it what it is. You can either make pins or get the smaller weed guards and cast them in but I prefer to use the pins. 3 Quote

Great post smalljaw. Ive been wondering if there is a teflon or other plastic material out there that would work. Currently I just buy 5/64in drill bits for mine works alright but kind of a pain when powder painting because the paint obviously stick to the drill bit. It works and you can scrape the paint off but its not that efficient 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted January 2, 2022 Super User Posted January 2, 2022 I bought some of the teflon in the correct size and cut them into 1" lengths. These are what I use for my hair jigs and some prototype finesse jigs. Allen 2 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 2, 2022 Super User Posted January 2, 2022 When I had that mold I used a piece of romex that I had left over from some electrical wiring. I’m not positive but I believe it was 10 gauge. 1 Quote
