Rubber core sinker and remove the rubber. Slide the sinker over the wire and punch closed with a plier. Rubber core come in sizes from 1/16 oz up to 1 1/2 oz.

I use copper wire. If you use solder, get solid one without flux. If you wrap it tight, it will stay put, but you can make it permanent with glue or heat. Makes for a pretty good keeper too...

I have something currently that looks like rubber core sinkers but there is no rubber it's roughly the same shape as them but no rubber. Do you know what they are called I'm assuming they will work? They weigh 3 grams each

Both Water Gremlin and Bullet Weight makes inexpensive rubber core sinkers. The advantage is the round hole through the sinker and slot after the rubber is removed doesn’t deform the wire when crimped. Very easy to install.

I am not sure what you have other then Bull Shot that is football shape.

Never weigh my lures, but depending on how much I put on, I'm thinking 1/8-5/16 or so.

Not a stupid question.  I’ve done this to larger weight spinnerbaits with skirt and blade colors not available in smaller sizes.  I use a pair of flush cut pliers to trim bottom and rear of head, file it smooth, and repaint.    I’ve never seen the need to worry about blade size because they catch fish.

Stupid question, if you want an odd sized spinnerbait, why don't you get the next weight up and file off some weight? You can get very heavy spinners

Not a stupid question at all. (There is such a thing, unlike what folks will tell you).

Taking weight off is just as legit as putting some on by whatever means. I find that I'm usually putting weight on more often, primarily when I want to keep the size or profile smaller. But there are certainly times when a lighter larger lure is desired. I have shaved heads on jigs, spinnerbaits and jig heads, usually with a pen knife, but a rough flat rock will work in a pinch. Another reason less weight is not as common is that a larger more resistant trailer will reduce the ROF, which is the objective of changing the weight around, so that is usually a quicker fix.  Someone clue jigfishing10 in... :)

Some times a simple solution is best.  I was fishing with a guide in Mexico, and I needed to get more depth out of my spinnerbait.  He suggested sliding a bullet sinker on the line above the spinnerbait.  I asked him if that works.  He said why not? I didn't have an answer to that so I tried it.  It worked great.  I do it all the time now.  It only takes a second to add any amount of weight.  I use a bobber stop to peg the weight against the spinnerbait, but it works fine letting the weight slide.

With my apologies to George López;

"Mas weight Gringo,"

"Will that work?"

"Es mas puto!"

I  use those Strike King Mini Spins below a dam in heavy current . To add weight I have put a bullet sinker on the line , a  rubber core sinker on the shaft or a short piece of stick worm  as a trailer .
