Winter worms

Anybody find it effective to throw large worms (7”+) in the dead of winter? Waste of time?

Down sizing to popular during winter, I go big, big bulky jigs, big craw worms, at least an 8" worm.

I use a Strike King finesse worm or a Bitsy bug jig with a trailer with not a lot of action. I do pretty good fish them both really slow. I have tried a regular size worm with out much luck. Also a hair jig and a small worm work really good

Where I fish we don’t have water temps dropping below 45 degrees in our local lakes. Big worms over 9” are a staple during early pre spawn.

I caught a few on a 7 inch Senko a couple days ago.  Surface temp. was 66 degrees.  Tjhat might not be the kind of winter fishing you are referring to.  I was bummed they wouldn't hit a buzz bait, and I had to slow down.  I guess that is how winter goes.

I would say a 7 inch worm would work, but I personally wouldn't go any larger.

This! When the water temps drop and those big bass start slowing down and become less willing to go very far for a meal, I want to tempt them with something to make it worth their while.
