bigspirit Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Anybody find it effective to throw large worms (7”+) in the dead of winter? Waste of time? 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 Down sizing to popular during winter, I go big, big bulky jigs, big craw worms, at least an 8" worm. I wanna give NADINE a mouthful 5 Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 I use a Strike King finesse worm or a Bitsy bug jig with a trailer with not a lot of action. I do pretty good fish them both really slow. I have tried a regular size worm with out much luck. Also a hair jig and a small worm work really good Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 Where I fish we don’t have water temps dropping below 45 degrees in our local lakes. Big worms over 9” are a staple during early pre spawn. Tom 3 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 I caught a few on a 7 inch Senko a couple days ago. Surface temp. was 66 degrees. Tjhat might not be the kind of winter fishing you are referring to. I was bummed they wouldn't hit a buzz bait, and I had to slow down. I guess that is how winter goes. 1 Quote
Basser2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 I would say a 7 inch worm would work, but I personally wouldn't go any larger. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 29, 2021 Global Moderator Posted December 29, 2021 I don’t even throw big worms in the summer haha Quote

When the water temps drop and those big bass start slowing down and become less willing to go very far for a meal, I want to tempt them with something to make it worth their while. 1 Quote
