Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 29, 2021 Global Moderator Posted December 29, 2021 So sorry to here this. He was the best. I remember him being scared to death to fly. He would get in his “Madden Cruiser” and drive cross country to announce a game. May he Rest In Peace 2 Quote
OldManLure Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Madden was the best. Who else in sports could have elevated the turkey leg to sports trophy status. RIP Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 Brett Favre's biggest fan RIP Quote
Super User gim Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 I’m too young to remember him as a coach but I can recall him analyzing games with Pat Summerall for years. The best analysts are former players and coaches. Of course he also has a popular video game named after him too, with a new version released annually. An amazing football mind and a true steward of the game, no doubt about it. 2 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 A sports icon. RIP John Madden. I was reading a recap of his life this morning while drinking my coffee. His Oakland Raiders broke through with a loaded team in 1976 that won it all. That team had Kenny Stabler at quarterback; Fred Biletnikoff and Cliff Branch at wide receiver; tight end Dave Casper; Hall of Fame offensive lineman Gene Upshaw and Art Shell; and a defense that included Willie Brown, Ted Hendricks, Jack Tatum, John Matuszak, Otis Sistrunk & George Atkinson. Reading those names brought back lots of memories. 1 Quote

I remember routing for Fran Tarkenton and the Purple People Eaters in that Super Bowl. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 The first...and maybe only announcer that I would watch a game for. I learned as much about the game from his book, One Knee Equals Two Feet, as from any other book Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted December 29, 2021 Super User Posted December 29, 2021 Rest In Peace John Madden…. For a kid who grew up in Daly City, yours was a life well lived Husband, father, and grandfather Hall of Fame football coach Television personality, Businessman, and Entrepreneur Our sports lives were enriched through those spontaneous Maddenisms And thanks for introducing us all to Turducken A lot of folks are waiting to see you again Rest In Peace 2 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted December 31, 2021 Super User Posted December 31, 2021 I never liked the Raiders or anything and his time as a coach was before I was even born, but for many years he I appreciated his insight to the game from the broadcasting booth. I understand a lot more about the game because of him than I would if he never went into the broadcasting booth, that's for sure. And he seemed like he'd be a cool guy to sit and talk to etc. Quote
