I've passed about 35 in my life. Passed one on Xmas morning this year, an hour or so of discomfort. This year, week of Thanksgiving I passed a whopper, 7mm. My wife actually took me to the er, I threw up for 4 hours nonstop. I drank a gallon of water and was barely dribbling out blood red urine. I ended up passing it while being admitted. I have a couple things I've used over the years that have helped. The first is called stonebreaker, its an herb and breaks up stones, you just need to be consistent with it, and I wasn't. The other is something that has helped me pass them once I know they're coming. Drink tons of water, and every 15 mins or so, jump straight up and come down stiff legged. Do that 4 or 5 times every 15 minutes, it definitely helps them move along.

I stay hydrated and have tried everything to get them out once they start moving such as swimming, walking/jogging, rolling around on a 60 cm excercise ball, riding atv, and etc. I've figured out that a hot tub, a bottle of water, a bottle of beer, a Percocet, and a Soma ever hour until it passes is my best process. This is from a person that take zero daily meds and I do not say it's safe but works for me. I passed a 6.5 mm that looked a glass sandspur with ureter lining still hanging from it. Our local hospitals will only treat you with the bare minimum for pain so years ago I quit looking to them for help to be injected with the equivalent of 2 Tylenol.

I've never needed pain meds before. I begged the hospital for some. Didn't end up getting any as they made me wait 2 hours before admitting me and I passed it in that time.

Ouch! Despite having early stages of kidney disease, I have been fortunate enough to have never experienced a kidney stone (although the doctor acts super surprised when I said that and I'm not sure he believes me). But they say it's perhaps the most pain a human can experience. I do get a gout attack several times a year which some say can give it a run for the money though.

I see it hasn't taken your sense of humor though. Wish you a speedy recovery.

I had gout years ago. Not even remotely close. Gout was like a birthday party compared to passing a good stone.

Been there and done that, most recent one was several months ago.

Worst one, too. Wife ended up taking me to the ER (or ED as it is

now called), and when they had me pee before going to a room,

I passed it. Even still, it was excruciating, and the cocktail of stuff

they gave me made me cry in joy at the relief of the pain.

I don't wish it on anyone. Horrific experience. 2x in my life.

And for the record, I drink a lot of water.... :D

Here's the thing with gout, if you only had it once, you probably had a very mild onset. Maybe you could still walk on it without throwing up. The first time I had it was pretty painful, but only lasted a couple of days. The next couple of times at all weren't too bad. At one point I got it in both ankles and one toe and couldn't even walk downstairs for two weeks and had to crawl to the bathroom.

Every time since, I usually end up with a full blown fever and throwing up from the pain and that's not even trying to walk on it and that doesn't go away for usually several weeks at this point.

I had to carry my old roommate to the truck once when gout hit him. He was useless. Then a couple days later he was running 3 miles , crazy how quick it can bring you down

The first time I had it, I made it to my car and tried to go to work. Eventually I couldn't even hit the brake pedal anymore and had to pull over. The next day was notably better, I was supposed to go to a Bruins game with a friend but had to cancel.

Wanna see a grown man cry? Convince me to drink a beer, that's all it takes to onset an attack.

i passed my first one ever, a couple months ago, and then another a few weeks after that. i can confirm, the pain is horrible.  i lost my small intestine to gangrene 20 years ago, and a 5 mm stone was (for me) equally painful. i have heard of people passing them up to 17 mm. if i had to pass one that big, i'd have to ask someone to take my gun away from me until i passed the stone.

17mm? No way. I was pi$$ing pure red at 7mm. Im thinking anything more than that and its a search and rescue mission by the dr.

Somewhere around 8 or 9 is virtually unpassable, they break them up so you can pass smaller pieces. I think I'm gonna go have that done to get whats in my kidney out.
