Super User gim Posted January 1, 2022 Super User Posted January 1, 2022 I’m not going to pretend to be a college football guru. I like football and I primarily watch NFL. I live in big ten country so that is what I follow living here. As a neutral fan, it’s obvious that big ten teams other than a random loaded Ohio state team can’t compete on a national level against the SEC’s better teams. If you can’t see that watching the the Wolverines tonight then you are either blind or too stubborn to admit it. 2 Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 How did I not see this topic until now?! First and foremost, I'm a West Virginia Alumnus, May '09. Moving on... I'm in a pick'em pool. We are not counting any games that have been altered, and if Georgia holds on my record after tonight will be a mere 17-13. On Jan 10 I'll be cheering for the Dawgs. P.S. Horns Down. 1 Quote

Georgia took Hutchinson out of the equation and this is what we’re left with. As a Michigan fan I’m not surprised. 1 Quote

Just like until this year Ohio st ran away with the Big 10, there are holes in each conference. 1 Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Can we agree that an Alabama vs Georgia National Championship pairs the best 2 teams (maybe by far) in college football this year? I guess what I'm saying is if we replaced Cincy or Michigan with any team of your choice, the result is the same. 3 Quote

I don't think OU will win the SEC, not for a while anyway. 2nd or 3rd depending on how they align the conference. I have read what you’ve said. You’re saying basically that you may not be as good as Alabama and Georgia but you’re better than everyone else. I’m saying it doesn’t work like that. I think OU has the type of program that can win the conference but with a little bad luck like an injured quarterback you can easily loose 5 games in the SEC. Hire the wrong coach and it can takes years to recover. It’s happened to every storied program in the conference. I’m not saying Tennessee has a better program than Oklahoma but I am saying Tennessee has been tested far more than Oklahoma in the last 40 year. Historical comparisons are meaningless. 1 Quote

Super User Bird Posted January 1, 2022 Super User Posted January 1, 2022 I've lived in several different states including Georgia and Alabama so consider myself a freelance. Lol I got the Bulldogs by 3 and I know.....betting against Saban is like betting against Brady. Quote

If either of those teams are in another conference they probably go undefeated rather easily. Im looking forward to the national championship game and I think Georgia wins. But Saban is just an incredible coach. I know he gets the best recruits year in and year out but he still has to motivate those kids who have been the best their entire lives. That can be quite a challenge with 18-22 year olds! On another note, my team, the Iowa State Cyclones were pre-season #7. That is about as asinine as it can get on the college football scene. They went 7-5 which I predicted since June, but that is a great season for the cyclones!! 1 Quote

Loomis13 Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Say what you want about the SEC and their bowl record (I dont put too much stock into it) but they went 4-0 in their "big" bowl games. Tennessee also got screwed in their game. Edit* Still have Ole Miss tonight in what is probably the game I have been looking forward to the most. 5 hours ago, rtwvumtneer6 said: Matt Campbell is no slouch. I cant believe he stayed, but showed this year hes not ready for a bigger program. If you cant be your rival Iowa with that horrible offense and a that many returning players then you just arent ready. But he has done a tremendous job with the program and they are having great seasons for Iowa State football. 1 Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 1, 2022 Super User Posted January 1, 2022 The OSU vs ND game. Not an OSU fan at all, but that was an incredible come back. I get up to grab a beer and pee and seems like they score twice in this one. Gonna be a lot of people out there saying Utah should have been in one of those spots yesterday. 1 Quote
