Anyone throwing Manns jelly worms ?

Was helping a friend go through his storage and several boxes had his business name written on them from back in the 80's when he owned a bait & tackle shop.

 

He had a large inventory of jelly worms and crankbaits and gave me quite a few for helping him.

Some were 12" Orange worms and I can honestly say, have never thrown an Orange worm or one quite this large. 

 

Anyone still a fan of Manns jelly worms ?.....and what about orange?

Fan? Yes..Do I use them a lot, no not really.
When I want a big worm I always grab an anaconda first. 

The only color I carry is motor oil.

Love Mann's Jelly Worms. One of the first worms I really had success with many years ago. Grape and purple in 6" size were a consistent producer. A classic.

I still use them but not as much as in the past . I caught a five lber this past fall on a 6 inch black grape rigged with exposed hook on a jig head fished 20 foot down .

Seriously though,  I've been using them since 1982. Great worms.

The only ones I see anymore are the monster sized. I would have no reservations about using them. Caught a ton on them back in the day. A grape one was all my dad would use at one time. He would say if they're there and hungry, they'll eat that worm. He was usually right.

I actually just started throwing them this summer as part of my big worm brush pile game. I was using the 9" in blackberry and grape- caught several quality fish on them.

I had some I bought back in the 80's that smelled strong, like a solvent smell, so they just sat in a drawer forever. During the lockdown, I got desperate for worms and gave them shot. They worked great - caught a lot of fish on them and they lasted longer than a trick worm because of their shape - you can rehook lower down the worm when they get tore up. I don't know what color they were, some shade of green, but I wish I had more.

 

I would definitely try that orange. Looks like motor oil in that picture.

I caught my PB on one. I still have a few left from the late 70s , but don’t want to use them up. I used some of them a few years ago and caught a few . I need to get some more. The grape, black grape , and black were the colors I used.

Yes sir. The 12" Grape worked on this 6.2 this past June in the middle of the night. Didn't know they made Orange.

I like them, but don’t ever throw them.  They have really good action, I got some of the 12 inchers from @Bluebasser86, and I'm gonna throw them in the summer.  Love me some big worm fishing.

I've been using them for many years, but I must admit that I only throw one color in one size now. As for orange, I didn't know they were ever offered in orange.

Black and motor oil in 6" and 8" sizes have always worked well for me, especially the old 6" auger tail version.  Mann's is still in business so you can obtain them if you wish.  Senkos have worked even better though, so I only buy jelly worms occasionally for the nice smell they impart to one's utility trays, which can trigger fond childhood memories!  ?

The Auger tail is a different worm from the jelly worm. I caught a lot of fish on those, and the Mannipulator worm growing up. The Mann's Shadow was the first soft jerkbait I had good success with too and every time I see the Stingray grub I wonder why I ever stopped fishing them. 

 

Now that has me remembering another Mann's worm that was my go to worm for a couple years. It was a 6" worm but fairly thick and had more of a big "C" swimming tail, kind of like a gator tail worm. Caught so many bass on that worm in red shad color. Looked like the 6" Hardnose worm but I don't remember it having the hardnose feature.

zI use couple colors in 12" on summer, Just they break so easy and you'll need to change every fish or maybe every other fish you catch with them.

It's apparent that a lot of ya'll threw Manns.

I've had minimal experience with them but will certainly give them a try.

 

From the late 70's and many years after, threw nothing but culprit. 

Nowadays it's 95% stick baits.

I started on culprits in the early 80s and still fish them. They were my go-to bait in the 80s and 90s. I just bought a bag of Fire and ice ones the other day…

It seemed like the ones made back then were heavier and lasted longer…There is a lake we have fished for 35 years, and Red shad culprits were and are still the best bait on that lake…

A Mann’s 9” Jelly Worm in Blackberry is a go-to staple. 
 

This bass hit it as soon as it hit the water.
