Super User Mobasser Posted December 22, 2021 Super User Posted December 22, 2021 One thing I heard many years ago, is that bass fishing will be better after three days of consistent weather. Looking back through my notes, this has been true. Regardless of season, barometer, and other factors we hear about, I've had the best fishing when we've had three days of the same, or near same weather. Has this been true in your own fishing? 2 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 22, 2021 Super User Posted December 22, 2021 Mine is three days of the wind being from the same direction. That sets up the food chain. It moves the algae which is followed by the zooplankton then the shad and lastly the game fish to feed on the shad. 3 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 22, 2021 Super User Posted December 22, 2021 The bigger brown bass I'm looking for are most readily available (insert shallower) early & late season. Getting even TWO days of consistently fishable weather in a row is like GOLD this time of year here - and THREE seems like Nirvana. Accessibility to the bass is no question my biggest hurdle. But If I can get there safely, especially during a couple of days or more of stable weather conditions, there's going to be carnage ! Bring on the open water A-Jay 5 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted December 22, 2021 Super User Posted December 22, 2021 Where I fish now the weather can be exactly and I mean exactly the same for months. The fish bite like crazy the first day the weather changes. I do what ever I can to be on the water the first day it rains after the winter dry season. When I lived in Eastern WA the fishing was better when the weather was stable. The problem there, especially in the spring was, if I didn't like the weather, all I had to do was wait 5 minutes and it would change. 3 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 22, 2021 Global Moderator Posted December 22, 2021 Down here 2 days is usually enough after a winter time cold front passes through. I’ve had tournaments cancel when a front is expected on tournament day. However, the day before as the pressure starts to drop, can be the best of times. Mike 4 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 22, 2021 Super User Posted December 22, 2021 When I really get excited is two day stable weather before I go & two days stable weather after I go. But I'll take what I can ? 4 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted December 22, 2021 Super User Posted December 22, 2021 I like a front moving in in the PM or so, rain too. Quote
Bigassbass Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 I believe this is true, 3 days or more of warming trend is good to fish! 2 Quote
Trox Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 I guess consistent weather is ok as long as it is not a blue bird sky with zero wind that wont leave... I'll take a change in conditions any day if it brings some wind. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 1, 2022 Super User Posted January 1, 2022 I like 2 or 3 days of stable weather, without big swings in the temperature. 1 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 1, 2022 Super User Posted January 1, 2022 Best fishing is as a front is coming through. After its through you need a few days. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 1, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 1, 2022 I like fishing when everyone else thinks it will suck, like right after a storm system. Don’t need 3 days of anything. Granted, im going fishing no matter what. But every time I read these threads about 3 days of stable weather, I think that helps more for fisherman that cast and reel constantly. I fish slow 2 Quote

Certainly there are situations where 2-3 days of stable or improving conditions lead to a good bite. However, I can think of as many or more situations where being near or on the center of abrupt change, day 0 or day 1, where I’ve had great bite windows that simply fail to exist if you wait 3 days for stability. 4 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 1, 2022 Super User Posted January 1, 2022 Give me 5 stable days like listed above & I will rent a cabin for that entire week. Putting together a single day pattern is challenging, try putting together a pattern that will hold for 3-4 days. That's my kind of fishing ? 1 Quote
BayouSlide Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Fishing a bayou in 18 - 20 mph winds the day before a major cold front rolls in doesn't seem to work...I know 'cause I gutted out all day yesterday for a dink LM and two needlenose gar ?. 1 Quote
Captain Phil Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 Here in Central Florida, winter cold fronts start with the wind blowing strong out of the southeast, eventually swinging more west. After the front passes, the temperature drops, the sky clears and the wind blows from the north. If the water is warm the day before the front starts, fishing can be good. The craziest fishing I have ever seen was a Friday in the Kissimmee river with the wind blowing 20-30 out of the west. It seemed ever bunch of pads had a 5-8 pound bass parked in it ready to bite my bait. I was prefishing for a tournament and thought I found the mother load. As always happens, the first day of the tournament was cold, blue sky, windy and tough fishing. The first day of a cold front can be good. When the wind calms down, bass seem to disappear. You can always find some bass, the question is how hard do you have to work to catch them? 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 2, 2022 Super User Posted January 2, 2022 Stable weather doesn't necessarily mean sunny mild conditions. I want unchanging weather whatever it is. The last 5 days here had highs in the 80s with lows in the upper 60s. Yesterday was 81° right now it's 43° with NNW winds 25-35 mph with higher gusts. Tonight's forecast is 28° with NW winds at 14 mph. All this with a misting rain! Needless to say I ain't planning no outdoor activities! 1 Quote

Dang, I was hoping he would take up my invitation to go chasing feral hogs with me...love a Louisiana cold snap because you can hang 'em overnight, no need to finish breaking 'em down when you're tuckered out from draggin' 'em through the woods all afternoon. So what's it going to be, Catt? ? [End thread drift ?] 1 1 Quote
