stewa107 Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I have a 2001 ranger comanche 520 dvx that I've had for about 2 years. It has a 2001 mercury optimax 225hp on it. For RPM I'm topping at about 4800 and getting a top speed of 50 to 52 with a full load. What performance are people getting out of a similar setup. I feel I should have a little better speed. Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted December 22, 2021 Super User Posted December 22, 2021 I agree @stewa107 that you should be getting better performance out of your boat. What prop do you have on it? Have you talked with your mechanic? I had an ‘04 520VX with a 225 Optimax turning a 25p Tempest and even with 923 hours on the original powerhead I would get 70mph (GPS) at 5600rpm (redline). Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted December 22, 2021 Super User Posted December 22, 2021 Something isn’t right. Have you checked the P2P. I had that same motor on a Champion 206. It ran 65 mph at 5400 rpms. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 23, 2021 Super User Posted December 23, 2021 Sometimes the way the boat and engine are setup can reduce speed. Engine height from plane surface could be too low, prop shaft should be 3 1/2” below the pad when parallel. Too much weight forward keep the bow down. Trim isn’t working properly. Engine with dead cylinder or low compression. Throttle isn’t advancing to full. Tom 1 Quote
