I was in the grocery store earlier today and I was getting some noodles. I was on the isle with the can food on the opposite side. I over heard an elderly man asking another shopper if she knew where the dry black eyed peas were and that he could only find them in a can. She told him she did not. I told him I was not trying to listen to his conversation but I could show him where they were. So we walk an isle over to where they were and I pointed to them and said "Right there sir". He looked at me (I have no idea who the man is) put his arms out like he wanted to hug me. I was kind of froze but thought what the heck. He hugged me and said God Bless you young man, I hope you have a very Merry Christmas. When I got in the truck it made me really think about what some people might be going through. It may have been nothing, or it may have been that he just needed a hug.

Sometimes, the most simplest things can make a person's day. That was one of them.

It’s much easier and more rewarding to be nice to someone than it is to be mean to someone.  Yet so many people seem to prefer the later.

I’d venture to say a lot of people would just back up or put his fist out for a bump.
Obviously this man needed a little more.

Well Done

Sometimes it doesn't take much to make someone's day. Good move on your part to be helpful.

It obviously meant something to him as he was appreciative of your kindness.

Hard to tell where this man came from but sounds like my kind of guy.

I know we live in a time where we seem to have to be on edge about everything, but sometimes I think we need to just be as kind as we can. The more I have thought about this, the more I think I was put in this situation for a reason. Some of you may not believe in things like that, but I do believe this man needed a hug and I was happy to oblige.

BTW, I would hug anyone who ever needed one. I know some of you won't understand but you have no idea how many kids NEVER get hugged or even told they are loved. And this can go for ANYONE.

I had an old man come up to me at my local BPS store and ask me(not a BPS employee) if I'd help him pick out a few lures. I spent an hour with him explaining this lure, that line, rods/reels, techniques, and etc. I told him about a local lake and the type of boat needed(hp limited).

He told me he'd had to give up fishing over 10 years ago at that time to stay home and take care of his ailing wife. He had sold his Ranger, all his lures, and 90% of his rods & reels thinking he'd never fish again. We exchanged phone #'s and I finished shopping and went on my way figuring I'd never see him again.

A month later he called me to tell me he'd bought a boat and was ready to get at it. We met at the lake and I told him to just follow me and I show him some key spots. I taught how to make a waypoint, adjust his electronics, and use his mapping.

It's been two years and we've made 101 trips fishing. I showed him how to cast videos from his phone to his TV and he's constantly watching. He just turned 82 and he's good fisherman and great friend.

That’s a cool story. Looks like he can catch some good bass, too!

According to your user info, you’re in Oklahoma. There are people from other places that are used to being treated terribly. Not everyone is as considerate as you are or people from where you live are.
