My wife has a friend who is a retired schoolteacher. Her husband is gone, and she lives alone. I've helped her out over the last four years, fixing things around her house. A new disposal, storm door, and recently, some new boards on her back porch. Mrs. Watson has always offered to pay me, but  I've always said no, and not accepted any money.                              I was surprised when I finished the porch, and she handed me a Christmas card.     Inside was a gift card to Academy for 100.00. I started thinking about what to buy.  I fish quite often with an old friend. I made a post about him some time back.                                        Mike was wounded in Vietnam, and has walked with a limp since 1970.  I kind of helped him get back into fishing after twelve years, when his wife passed on, and he gave up on things.                                                      Mike lives alone in a two bedroom senior apt complex in town. I'm happy to say he's back into fishing full bore.  He lives on a fixed income, and doesn't always have a lot of extra money for fishing tackle.                       So, last Saturday my wife put together a tray of Christmas cookies, and we went to Academy, where I bought a new Lew's LFS casting reel. We visited Mike. He said," oh, did you get a new reel"? " No man, it's for you, it's your reel Mike", Merry Christmas". I only wish you guys could have been there when he opened the box and saw the new reel. Yes, it's only a reel, but it made all the difference to my old friend.                    So, I passed on one gift to another person. I felt good about doing it too.                                   I'm looking forward to Mike catching some fish with his new reel this coming spring. I'm sure he'll put it to good use.          So, in the spirit of Christmas, this " passing it on" worked out perfect. Mike was thrilled with his new reel, and I'm happy that I was able to give him this gift.                                            Yes, it's only a fishing reel, but, to a fisherman, it was the best gift of all.

The best feeling I get is helping other less fortunate people.  Children, unemployed, aged. Taking them out to dinner.  Best part of my life.

Today’s been a crappy day. Found out my younger daughter’s fiancé tested positive for COVID and she’s not feeling well (although she tested negative). They live in my older daughter’s home, so our trip to see them on Christmas just got cancelled.

Thanks for a great post and spreading some cheer!

The ole' saying still stands today......it's better to give than receive.

Good move Mobasser.

Good on ya, Mo.  THAT is what Christmas is about.  Christmas is the only time I wish I was rich.  A lot of people would have full bellies and a present under the tree from Jaderose Clause

Very good and generous move on your part. Not many people willing to do that anymore.
