Smallies Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Thought it might be fun to get everyone's input on where you would move if you could move anywhere to fish for Bass. I live in CA, and considering moving at some point in the future and would love to hear y'all's input — and I'm sure other folks would too. So, let's have it — What's your dream state, and even city or region, to live for Bass fishin'? Quote

Smallies Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 Sweet! What lakes over there would you want to live on/by, @FishinBuck07? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 21, 2021 Super User Posted December 21, 2021 I'm in a great location for bass fishing. 4 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted December 21, 2021 Super User Posted December 21, 2021 For bass, I would say I’m already here, right in the heart of SoCal, Canyon Lake. And yes I moved here just for Bass Fishing. For fishing in general and I might not even care for bass is Florida. The first target would me “The King” and I can spend all my life hunting for clown knife fish. 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted December 21, 2021 Super User Posted December 21, 2021 Central FL. But my wife is probably never going for that. I like So FL, but there are simply too many other people that like it. Aside from that, maybe around Charleston, SC. A good mix of slat/freshwater fishing. The wife and I are kicking around the idea of moving once my daughter finishes school. I'll find the bass fishing no matter where I settle. 1 Quote

I'm also open to the Pauleys Island/Murrells Inlet area. My sister has a house in Garden City Beach and we already have several friends down there. The Waccamaw and Black Rivers are just a short drive a way and the inlets are super accessible. I've already caught flounder there. Quote

I don't plan to ever again live with the threat of hard water, unless it is a part year, snowbird deal. For me, I think hundreds of possible places loosely defined by a (flexible?) triangle with Memphis, Richmond and Augusta at the corners. Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted December 21, 2021 Super User Posted December 21, 2021 I wouldnt move somewhere just for bass fishing. Having said that I’m an hour from Clearlake. when I retire we plan on moving to Washington state. Different bass, but I’ll adapt. 1 Quote
Super User GaryH Posted December 21, 2021 Super User Posted December 21, 2021 Back down to central Florida. I never got bored with so many great fisheries. You can go in any direction and top quality fishing. Wife and I are thinking about snow birding it. 2 Quote

Luke Barnes Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I have two places for two reasons. First would be up right on Grand Lake here in Oklahoma. Excellent bass fishing but still close to home and family. Never freezes and is home to some of the biggest tournaments in the industry. Second would be back in my hometown in upstate New York. I lived at the wedding of the waters of the east and west branches of the Delaware River. I would ride 4 wheelers at the "point" where they meet. Then I open up myself to trout and there are still some decent largemouth lakes on top of smallies being abundant. 1 Quote

padlin Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I'd need 2 places, the Boundary Waters in MN when it's warm, and northern FL when it's cold. Quote

Paid enough taxes to Minnesota over the years only to watch them mis-manage for too long. Hard to imagine fishing freshwater 12 months of the year, but something to shoot for! Quote
Aaron_H Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I'm right where I want to be in East Orlando. Surrounded by quality bass fisheries and both coasts within driving distance. 2 Quote
Big Hands Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I moved to my current area specifically so I could fish easily and often, as in for three or four hours after work if I want to. It has been somewhat good in that respect because I can do that and fish all year. But, I think I am ready to try something different and be able to fish when and where I want for the most part. The cost of living for retirees will also be a reason for me leaving. My focus will be on somewhere in the central-southeast quadrant of the country. Basically, head east along the I-10/I-20/I-40 corridor and I'll know it when I get there. Texas seems like a good area for me, and I also hear a lot of good things about Tennessee. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted December 21, 2021 Super User Posted December 21, 2021 Chapala Jalisco Mexico. Largest natural lake in Mexico. Large community of retired US and Canadian citizens. Mild year around climate. Bass recently introduced rapidly increasing in size and numbers. Last time I fished there, best 5 were 31 pounds and as far as I know I was the only one sport fishing the lake that day. Another plus is 5 other smaller basically unknown lakes with DD bass within driving distance from Chapala. 1 Quote
GRiver Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I pretty happy where I’m at, I live on Lake George, which is St Johns River. Fishing’s pretty good here. Largemouth and strippers are here. The bream and specks are here too, if you want to fish for them. Shrimp come up the river in the fall and that brings reds and flounder. 1 Quote
