Aftco Reaper Windproof Pullover

Anyone have any experience with these? Got a giftcard from work for my 10 year anniversary (a couple years late but I guess better late than never), and I'm ready to step up my cold weather gear from my basic hoodies that I've been wearing on top of my base layers and under my outer shell and hoping this will be a solid option.

i tried one on at my local tackle store. i liked the material etc . it was kind of hard to get on and off though. it also felt pretty restrictive around the neck. those are personal things though. then i saw they had the same thing with a zipper. i bought that and i like it so far. its not very insulated but thats ok i layer under it and it keeps me warm. if its really nasty i put the hood up and the face shield on.

I own both the regular Reaper sweatshirt and the windproof versions. Absolutely love the regular sweatshirt!

The Windproof version fits a bit different than the sweatshirt. A little more baggy around the mid section and tighter around the neck and hood. The hood is a little difficult to fit over your head. It also felt like air was easily able to get up under the windproof version and keep you cold. 

 

I would definitely lean towards the regular Reaper with a outer shell.

I have the windproof Reaper and love it. It does fit snug, and requires me to use the side zipper to get on and off. I bought the medium, as the large was too baggy and too long in the sleeves. I have worn it over a long sleeve T shirt and hoodie and was plenty warm. It definitely works well as a wind breaker and sheds some water, but it is not waterproof.

I think they are regarded as good quality apparel and I know several people that wear them. Have heard a few guys say they either fit or they don't, especially if you wear with the hood up and a ball cap underneath (which you may or may not do). Apparently some feel the neck/back length with the hood up and a hat on is too restrictive and pulls awkwardly, especially when looking down at their graph. As they fish throughout the day are constantly adjusting and it gets annoying. Others have said its a great integrated way to get the benefits of a hood as well as the sun blocking of a bill on a hat.

I have this pullover and I really like it. It blocks the wind well for me. I would only wear it on days starting at 40 degrees and rising as you’re pushing the limits in staying warm with how I believe it is intended to be worn. With that said, I find a base layer and a t-shirt, to be my preferred dress before putting this on for both warmth and mobility. 

 

You’ll want to wear a baseball cap while using the hood as it keeps the hood out of the way. The neck / face shield works well for me too, plenty of comfort. I like that it has thumb inserts at the end of the sleeves as well as the large center pocket for both warmth and storing whatever you like to have on you.

I also have the reaper hoodie. Keep in mind this old body gets cold pretty easy, the aftco  hoodie does a good job of keeping the wind and cold at a bear minium.

Looks like a nice sweatshirt but I don't how it would be for cold weather.  Most of the windproof material sacrifices warmth and breathability to stop the wind.  Unless you generating a lot of body heat on your own, it may not be warm enough to get the job done without a really good base layer. 

 

On another note, I guy that fishes in my tournament group is sponsored by them.  All the stuff he gets, according to him, is top notch and he is super picky even when it is free.

I have the original, and it's warm and comfortable.  Well made.  Most of my outdoor gear is high-end Simms apparel, and I'd rank the original Reaper right on par with that.

I don't have any experience with them, but I've had zippered pockets in the past and I hate them.

I never leave home without mine when it's below 60 degrees. Windproof gear makes such a big difference.

Yes. I have one and they are great. It is perfect for running across the lake here in So Cal. You may want to keep your layers in KS though.

Yes, this is my plan to use it as the layer under my outer layer. My issue with the normal pullover is the steam that rises off the water and blows around from the power plant lakes occasionally is so heavy that it will start to soak through, under, over, the outer wear and start to get me damp around my neck and arms. I'm hoping with combination of being able to cinch it down and being water/wind resistant, this might be the answer to really staying warm when I'm on the water and it's in the teens or 20's.
