Formulations have improved, so you really have to compare line vs. line specifically these days, and not just generalize that fluoros are weak and nylons are strong - especially since most testing is done dry (nylons weaken with moisture absorption; most fluoros don't). You had me at Vanish... Quote

Having suggested anglers use line diameter vs label pound test for decades to compare apples to apples this test shows why. Using label pound test only mono came close to 100% knot strength, FC around 75% knot strength. Larger diameter wins every time. Comparing low end Blue label to lower end Vanish to premium Andy leader is questionable but proves the point. To me the rate of pull was slow but consistent. It would have been interesting to measure the stretch before breaking to settle that factor. Thanks for sharing. Tom 1 Quote

Tom I also found it interesting that he stated he still uses the Ande in his own fishing despite being slightly weaker in strength, but based on it having superior abrasion resistance vs the other lines, which is the most important factor to him given how he fishes. Lots of attributes with every line, and they’re all complex enough that we probably can’t ever design a single set of tests to ever determine “best” that would satisfy everyone because of all the variables involved…not to mention the totally subjective and non-standard labeling of line strength within the industry. cyclops2 Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Almost every company MAKES all their lines to break at 2 X the label strength. DDUUUHHHH Why lines last so long if left in the sun every day ? ? Quote
