Super User Mobasser Posted December 20, 2021 Super User Posted December 20, 2021 I've seen some rods listed as tactical. St. Croix's Victory has one in the lineup, and I've seen a couple more. What is a tactical bass rod? 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 20, 2021 Super User Posted December 20, 2021 Allows you to shoot the fish with a stunner instead of hooking them? The crazy names they come up with for technique specific rods makes me shake my head. 4 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted December 20, 2021 Super User Posted December 20, 2021 It's a rod for the person that already has a technique specific rod for every imaginable technique. 1 2 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted December 20, 2021 Super User Posted December 20, 2021 I would ignore the nicknames and focus on the actual rod specs to give you a better idea of what the rod is capable of. If I had to guess as to what they are referring to as "Tactical".... It might be that is accurate and versatile. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 20, 2021 Super User Posted December 20, 2021 That's why I don't give my rods names! That way if I throw a spinnerbait on my worm rod it doesn't get confused! Actually my worm rod is listed as a spinnerbait rod. 3 4 Quote

TFO has an entire lineup in their Tactical Elite Bass series of rods, and St. Croix has one in their Victory series, all of which have military-style or themed names. ‘Tactical’ is defined as, “relating to or constituting actions carefully planned to gain a specific military end,” so they are just taking a spin on technique specific rods via marketing and using a word that creates some mental image of specialized superiority (all IMHO). 2 1 Quote

I guess I never really looked at bass fishing terms compared to military terms. Good explanation Team9nine. Thanks 2 Quote

Agreed ~ And so going the other way might not be helpful sales wise. Attaching names to rods like; Skunk Stick The Zero Hero The Snagmaster Dinkfest or even perhaps Not Gonna Happen A-Jay 14 Quote

Pretty sure all the soft plastics or the majority of the ones I use can be fished with it. 1 Quote

Back in the 70s and 80s, Daiwa’s top of the line baitcaster was a ‘millionaire.’ Now, in a world of billionaires and terabytes, a “million” isn’t so impressive any more, so Daiwa had to rebrand and come out with a “zillion,” which obviously worked by the number of guys willing to shell out $300-$400 to buy such a big numbered reel - it must be that much greater! ? 3 Quote
