Deebo Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 I've been debating which dobyns rod to get for pitching and skipping jigs in the 3/8 - 1/2 oz + trailer. (mainly 1/2). I would like to stay at least 7' and below 7'3". The xtasy 725 has my eye but I have read it's soft and not amazingly sensitive ( though dobyns seems to take a lot of heat on sensitivity, could just be overblown at this point). I currently use a 7'3" mh x-ray zbone for it, and also have a champ extreme 745c I use for football jigs. The 745 is just a touch too long for my taste to skip with, pitching it does fine. Would love everyone's thoughts. Also I currently use flouro but could switch to braid if need be to stiffen up a setup. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 19, 2021 Super User Posted December 19, 2021 2 very different jig presentations; pitching is rod lifting power and length, skipping is about tip flex and shorter length. This can’t be combined imo. Call Dobyns. Tom 2 Quote

Those are two different presentations like Tom said, dare I say it but if it is not that thick of cover just use the good old jack of all trades, your mh baitcast combo for flipping/pitching or if your like me and can't skip like the pros use a mh spinning rod, or just don't skip jigs and use your m spinning rod with smaller lighter wire baits in comparison to a flipping jig hook. Personally where I am from I don't have to flip much and instead I just make low trajectory casts under overhanging trees with roll casts Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted December 19, 2021 Super User Posted December 19, 2021 Skipping: Kaden 714C Pitching: Kaden 745C Investment is $246.00. Problem Solved Quote
Deebo Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 So if I leaned more towards skipping. Does anyone have experience with the drx725c or the dx705c? Quote
scbassin Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Have you looked into to the the Champion XP DC 610 4C ? It is designed for skipping. I have a couple of this rod & have found to be useful for much more than just skipping. I like the rod is 6' 10" too. Quote
jbrew73 Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 I feel pitching and skipping are techniques that use the exact same rod. As I’m working my way around cover I need the same rod to be able to cast , pitch and skip my lure into the target zone. I like a 7’ rod in heavy power. Quote

Super User Columbia Craw Posted December 20, 2021 Super User Posted December 20, 2021 It’s a rod that has taken some getting used to. Blanks with nano resin technology have a unique feel. It’s super light and perfectly balanced with awesome components. Sensitivity is tremendous but it’s different than the feel of a Loomis. The action is not quite as fast as I anticipated but I was using the Xtreme 745 as the base line. The 722 SF is phenomenal. Quote

freelancer27 Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 As others have said, there is not really one rod that can do it all. The Xtasy 755c is NOT a rod for pitching into cover. Too underpowered for me. I sold mine, because it did not have enough power for 1/2oz jigs (+trailer) in open water. The Extreme 705c might be an option if you are really focused on skipping. If you want to go longer the Champion Extreme 746c might actually allow you to do both. It has a lot of power and enough tip. Quote
