Does throw A-rigs (winter) and deep cranks (summer), but also really likes big flutter spoons and swim jigs, esp. swim jigs right now. This is for the giant bass. He says he has tried about everything, but those 4 seem to get the most use in rotation at present. Can use several other baits if you are just chasing "normal" smaller fish. This fish came off a swim jig…he has it on video. He spends most of his time graphing. Most wouldn’t have the patience to fish like he does. Quote

Driving around watching the screen all day. Im not a fan of the way some of the tech is going but thats another thread. Monster fish! 2 Quote

Perhaps more stealth? Perhaps not a negative clacking sound to the fish? Perhaps he's fishing cleaner water and the bladed jig is just too much for that clear of water? Quote

Haven’t heard him mention bladed jigs at all yet. Last night he said the only way he could get bit consistently, in this one example he gave when sitting on a giant school of bass, was to downsize to a crappie jig. He said the lightbulb went off, and he figured the bass simply wanted a very subtle, small profile presentation. Went to the plain swim jig, and hasn’t had to put it down for the past 6 months. Said he’s been expecting the A-rig to take over any day now, but hasn’t happened yet. 1 Quote
Basseditor Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 In 10 days, this will be me. Well sorta. I need to move first. And as soon as I find them bass. Retirement on Dec 31. Then 90% fishing days. I hope. I'm trying to decide where my first trip will be. Choke Canyon or O H Ivie. (Choke because 2-3 tournaments in Jan there.) I've been watching JJ online since last Feb/Mar. Kudos to him. It's a mind set. I would prefer to hunt giant fish rather than catch a limit of tournament fish. 1 Quote

He did also mention using an Axle Swinging Swim Jig (6th Sense) with a swimbait trailer rigged weedless if fishing around heavy cover, but he hadn't shown/mentioned that one previously that I've seen, so I don't think he's using it much at the moment. Just another option if you can't get the regular BSJ. 1 1 Quote
BassCats Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 are you saying he is throwing a jig with no trailer? Quote

He describes it as more of a finesse approach. He reels very slow and wants a small profile. Remember, he is watching the fish and his lure so he is presenting to a known fish. He doesn’t really need the benefit of vibration. Like Team9nine said, for the most part he sticks to 4-5 baits. 1 Quote
