Jaws.

Aside from that, you just have to fish. I don’t care if it’s too cold, too hot, too slow, too boring or too easy. It’s one of those things that works best when you actually do it. Not watch it on tv. The only time it’s fun to see other people catch fish is when you’re there fishing, too.

It's hard to swallow A River Runs Through It from the metronome scene at the beginning, as well as the fishing dialogue, which forces more modern fly shop dogma (would a kid say, "I want to be a professional fly fisherman").  Aside from that, an entertaining movie.

It was a boon for fly fishing pro shops, most of which went out of business the following decade.

If you've ever read Hemingway, he never wrote about fishing.  The closest was Big Two-Hearted River, which was about a WWI veteran healing his wounds in the river.  The trick then is turning one of those great short stories or novels into a movie - what impresses about Hemingway are the sentences he didn't write down, but left to you - most movie attempts failed (Hemingway slept through the movie premiers).

Hemingway never fished a dry fly, instead, always swinging wet flies on soggy silk line.

The greatest fishing scene in print was written in memoir by his son Jack in Misadventures of a Fly Fsherman.

A spy for OAS, Jack was parachuted into France, wearing a British uniform so he wouldn't be arrested as a spy.  Waiting for his underground contact, he put together the rod from his pack and began casting to rising trout.  He hooked up a bruiser just as a German column was marching by, and wishing he could be anywhere else.  The German sergeant saw the ruckus in the river and jumped in to help him land the large trout.  Fish to hand, the sergeant patted him on the back and trotted back to his column, never noticing the British uniform.
