Looking for a spinning rod

My ned setup is a Big TRD with 3/4" trimmed off so it falls right between a finesse TRD and big TRD and 1/8 oz ned head

 

I also like to throw 3.25" swimbaits on a 1/8 oz or 3/16 oz head

 

Less than $150

 

Any recommendations?

Look at Daiwa tatula cork model in that price range. Killer rods for $150 range.

Do you have one of those?  That was at the top of my list when i started the thread.  The medium power is rated 1/8-3/4.  I have a casting rod in that model and it's pretty stiff for a MH compared to other MH I have.  I'm a little worried about it being too heavy for this purpose.

I only have OG Tatula casting rods, but by the time you add plastic, the weight should be enough to load the spinning rod.

 

No experience with a Feather rod, but want one.  Everyone that has used one mentions they fish light.  Something to keep in mind.

 

I like my older Fenwick HMG rods.  I have both casting and spinning in that model.  There is a 6'6" MLF rated for 1/8-5/8 oz.   I don't have this particular model so can't be any help with it.  Sorry.

I have a ML in 7-1 and use to have the 7-6ML/M . I also have these models in steez AGS and compile. I cant see anyone not liking these rods in tatula. The spinning rods are not too stiff.

I would definitely look at the St. Croix Mojo Bass "Wacky Style". It's under $150, can be great for neds and really finessey lures but can also be used for a wide range of applications. A lot of times a medium light ned setup ends up being pigeonholed as just a ned rig rod, the Mojo would allow you a lot more options while still being a ned rig workhorse.

Agree with a lot of folks. Can't go wrong with an OG or new Tatula. 

 

The Phenix Feather's & M1's are amazing for their price point, but it's the only rod manufacturer I've ever had issues with guide inserts and even 1 guide frame after 6 months on one of my M1's. Maybe why Phenix blanks are pretty popular for custom builds? Amazing blanks. I have an Aldebaran paired with a Feather 7'1" MH.........it's a hair heavier than 7 ounces. Pardon all the jibber jabber.........If you're tying an alberto knot and suck at it like I do, I wouldn't buy a Phenix. 

 

Around $150, for a sub 7' rod, I'm going Daiwa or Dobyns. I'm sure you've seen......Dobyns 6'6" M - FR 663SF - $91 on sale TW right now.

Dang... I have seen them, and would have bought one, but they were sold out.  I just checked and now they are back.  However, I have already ordered the 6'6" MF Tatula..

Well. The 6'6" Tatula is a great rod. I have experience with the 6'6", 7', & 7'3" medium tatulas. The 6'6" feels noticeably more comfortable and better balanced than the 7' & 7'3".  I also have Dobyn's Xtasys and Legend Elites. Granite those other Tatulas are longer and the high ends are 7'5" - 7'6" rods should fish lighter and more balanced, I still enjoy fishing the 6'6" Tatula as much my higher end rods.

I went with the 6'6" Medium action Tatula spinning rod.  It came in yesterday and it's perfect.  I had 3-4 other rods in prior to this that were returned because I felt they were too heavy.  This is going to be ideal for a number of finesse techniques.  Something I don't typically enjoy, but I paired it with a Tatula 2500 and I think it's going to motivate me to do a little more finesse action next year.

I have liked the BPS Carbonlite 6'8" M-XF rated 1/8-1/2oz 4-12lb line. Comfortable, sensitive, nice action and loads well into the backbone when fighting a good size fish. The Fenwick HMG 6'9" ML-F would also be worth checking out.

I own the 6-8 medium (1/8-3/4)Tatula spinning rod.  It is a little stout, but I like it.  For your needs, the 6-10 medium(1/16-3/8oz) would be my choice, even though its 2" longer than you want.  The handle on these sticks are very comfortable, and the rod is also plenty sensitive and sharp looking.

Take a look at the Dobyns Fury 661 or 662, both great rods for what you're describing and TW has them at a great price right now.

OP, that tatula is leaps and bounds nicer than the fury or similar SC price offerings. Also Dobyns spinners you place your fingers right on the locking nut. Tatula has a super comfortable handle and is 2x as sensitive.

Phenix Maxim.  It’s my most used rod.  Unlike the review above, mine has been flawless.  Well one sank when I got careless.  I immediately ordered another one.  It’s not my favorite VISUALLY  since it’s a weird camo color.  But it is so good!   Punches way above its weight class.

Tatula ! Tatula ! Tatula ! Cork handle version. I have had the  7'medium, 7'1" med light and the 6'10 med . The 6'10" med is a versatile  rod it is stiffer than the ml so I think if you throw 3/16 oz. you would like it better.

Your big TRD weighs 1/2 oz trimmming around 3/8 oz + jig head weight = 1/2 oz, bait casting territory certainly

not ML spinning. Medium fast in what ever brand you prefer.
