Super User DitchPanda Posted December 14, 2021 Super User Posted December 14, 2021 TW has em on sale for $60 ...I'm looking at this model for jerkbaits and poppers. Anybody have experience with this particular rod? 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted December 14, 2021 Super User Posted December 14, 2021 No experience with that particular model, but I have several Veritas. They tend to run a power higher than their rating. Solid rods IMO. I've never had an issue with any of them. That's a great price. 1 Quote

That's why I think this one would be good for what I need..I expect it to fish like a light medium instead of what I think of as medium light. 2 Quote

I tend to think the opposite- I have a 6'10" MH Veritas that I think it closer to a medium. Perhaps being a 2 piece makes a difference? Quote

I've never used a Veritas, but have a couple other Abu rods. I'd agree they fish heavy. For the MH Veritas to feel like a Medium power, I'd have to guess you are comparing it to a broomstick. 1 Quote

TE and Vendetta feel like a standard MH to me, the PLX is way lighter. Compare all that to a Daiwa Tatula MH- that one feels like a Heavy to me. I use the PLX for trebled baits. Quote
Super User Spankey Posted December 20, 2021 Super User Posted December 20, 2021 I’ve never fished the exact rod you are talking about but I’m a big fan of the Veritas winch series of rods. I feel they are correct to power and action. Their Moderate actions for crankbaits fishing have become a favorite. I fish soft plastics on others but have been satisfied with the Veritas series. They are hard to find on a local scale. I’d be up for trying a 7 foot fast or x-fast action, ML or Medium power spinning rod for soft plastics. Abu is tuff to find near me. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted December 20, 2021 Super User Posted December 20, 2021 I have the new 6-10 Veritas PLX ML/F in a spinning setup. I agree that they fish heavier than their listing. Though I wouldn't say it's quite all the way up to medium. My M/F rods are definitely stiffer. To me, the ML Veritas PLX is almost an in-between power. And Extra Medium Light. But it's got a soft tip, so it still casts light lures well. Personally, while I like the rod, I find it a bit underpowered for poppers and jerkbaits. However, you might feel differently. It tends to absorb too much on aggressive snaps, in my opinion. But you might like something a bit softer than I do, and it's certainly close enough that I could see it working for some people. I like it best for wacky rigs and stuff like that. 1 Quote

In my experience spinning rods fish softer than the same power casting models Quote

And I can say that it's not quite as stiff as any of my medium powered casting rods. Quote
CrashVector Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 All I use now are Abu Garcia rods. The construction matters. The older gen 3 veritas rods (w the black grips) are 30ton graphite. They run stiff. The newer veritas PLX rods are true to rating imo, as is the brand new tournament edition, which is 36ton. If you're talking about the gen 3, it's gonna fish more like a Medium power. Regardless, $60 is a steal for that rod. They punch WELL above their price point. 1 Quote
