Those painful pet peeves!

My big pet peeve is when YouTube personalities waste 5 minutes of my day at the beginning of their video driving to where they're going to fish or going shopping. I just skip those parts. Everybody on YT thinks they're Bill Dance.

Youtubers-COPS called while fishing!! Well yeah, you were trespassing ?‍♂️ and really any clickbait title.

This one irks me too. And most of the comments are in favor of the tresspassers too.

Yeah, if you’re in my backyard without permission we have a problem…

Apparently, you are not familiar with bass fishing “hawg” theorem. Think back to middle  school math class. You know, like the Pythagorean theorem.

The Bass Fishing Theorem, discovered by yours truly, is as follows:

”Once hooked, the weight and size of a bass diminishes the closer it gets to an angler.”

So you see, they probably were at least 8lb. pigs when they got hooked, but they started shrinking in size and weight the closer they get to you.

I am sure this has happened to everyone here. ??

My pet peeve? Seeing people tying a palomar knot by creating the loop first and then trying to insert the loop into the hook eye — particularly irksome when the hook eye is small to begin with like with finesse and UL hooks. Don’t make me slap you. I will catch 5 fish before you ever insert 6# fc line through eye of a size 2 DS hook by way of the loop. ????? lol.

Haha I do a palomar that way. I just moisten it , roll it once or twice between my fingers, and it goes right through.  You MIGHT  have a one fish advantage but thats it…?

Im not an old grumpy “ get off my lawn “ type.

But nobody’s fishing out back inside my fenced property unless they ask …And then I have to vet you first…?

forgetting things in the truck after I launch the boat, having to re-dock and walk back... It's ? always ? something ?

It's even worse if you started late on a busy day and had to park what feels like a quarter mile away...

I have to make myself slow down and go through a mental checklist before I leave the house. Not once, but twice, I've forgotten my kayak paddle. I haven't forgotten the kayak. Yet.

Clearly none of them have ever owned property of any kind ?‍♂️

I don't care if you're hurting anything or not, if I don't know you, we're going to have problems if you're walking around my back yard or in my driveway.

I wish I could say that but I would have to guard it 24/7. Pretty high foot traffic in my neck of the woods, I’m on a street corner near very popular mountain bike trails. Lots of cyclists, dog walkers, and kids waiting on the bus. I have told some kids not to ramp their bicycles off my retaining wall a few times, but I’m gone 10 hours a day or more. I would imagine 20 or 30 people walk right along my curb daily

Lol. Tying the palomar loop first is okay it the hook eye is large enough but when it’s painfully obvious the loop won’t readily fit through the hole, it’s slappin’ time. I believe I saw it in a YouTube video and the dude “teaching” was having difficulty getting the loop through the hook eye. Why it got to me is still a mystery to me to this day. ???

You are right about the fishing line and such. Terrible. What does it take to bring a small garbage bag with you and pick up your trash?

I bring a bag and clean up my trash. I bring a large garbage bag to clean up all the other trash. Seriously....it only takes a few minutes of my time to clean up an area, and often if others see me cleaning stuff up, they do too. That is a win in my book.

I’ll add pro’s posting YouTube videos on techniques that’s about 10 minutes long as the first 5-8 minutes are spent promoting products not even related to our sport.

Seems like an act of desperation to make money from anyone throwing it at them regardless of product. But I get it…we all have mouths to feed!

Bassmaster magazine staples!

Anyone else notice that two or three months ago they changed from binding like a book to staples?  This bugs me a lot more than I think it should.   I was seriously considering not renewing subscription before,  but this seals it.  The old 'spine' had the issue date on it.  I keep back issues by month.  Makes it easy to pull out a stack of 'June' issues...or late fall...and read up on pertinent seasonal stuff.  Can't do that now...at least not as easily....and if looking for a specific issue, it will be far harder.  I know many don't even like the mag any more, but I still get some enjoyment...however, this move kinda makes me mad.

When other anglers see you fishing a spot and decide to park right next to you. I like to have my spot all to myself, if I can see you, then you are too close.

I watch tons of kayak fishing on Youtube in my down time and the sayings a lot of them use is plain wore out. I think the worst is "Lets Go" every time they catch a fish, not sure who started that one but it can GO already. Also the silly names for bass like slounch, donkey, bucket mouth, dink etc can also go.

I’m having a slow day. I try a new spot technique or lure.  Catch a bass on the first cast, Making me think I finally found a pattern. Then no more bites.

I know a lot of people are guilty of this. I'd say more than half the fishermen out there. People who cut/re-tie and either just throw the tag end into the water, or more likely, just let it drop to the deck of the boat. Guess what, at some point that line is going to blow into the water. Whether from driving the boat or when towing it home.

I try to dispose of my tag ends properly. Sometimes it goes where I can’t find it or the wind blows it away or whatever.

On a much smaller scale, this is probably an enormous problem. We just can’t see it.

That being said, the balls of discarded line that get hung up on outboards, bow mounts, wildlife, birds, or fish are a more obvious problem.

Trash left on the ice from the last 3 months of ice anglers is going to be the problem we’ll be dealing with the next month here.

I have many but I've started trying to find some entertainment in at least one...will explain

My biggest pet peeve by far is litter. I absolutely hate finding a crankbait package, a whole senko, clipped line tags, or a wrapper of old snells just chillin on the bank. Clipped line is a pain but that stuff will degrade in the water over time. Similar feelings with the cans of Steel Reserve I see in some of the rocks. It's the worst at the city ponds but it was really really bad after the bassmaster at Ray roberts last year...I've never seen that shore so littered. I carry a dump pouch on my belt if I'm going into the woods, but Ray roberts Isle du bois literally has a giant dumpster next to the ramp. There's no excuse. Leave no trace.

Trespassing. You can find fish in places that are legal to access.

Irresponsible dog owners. I see way too many dogs off leash in state parks. I also get a lot of dogs splashing around at city parks but that's a harder space to share. Ray roberts is deep and wide; surely there's a better swimming spot than a fast dropoff into a creekbed...like the beach area across the parking lot.

People casting over me or encroaching on my casting range.

I have mixed feelings about this - when it's a bank fisher who sees me catching fish and gets on top of me, I just laugh and go catch a fish at the prime spot they just abandoned. Cracks me up pretty hard tbh. If anyone asks what I'm using I'll tell them - that's the magic. Not the spot. Isle du bois has all kinds of great spots to catch bass. You just have to fish it right.

The ones that actually annoy me are the boaters that run up and down a crowded shore spot, landing casts 10 feet from where I'm standing. That's dangerous, and also rude. I have visions of getting hit by one of those lures, catching it with my net, and cutting off to take home. There's 30000 acres of boatable lake, some of these folks have livescopes. why you gotta be casting at the fishing pier full of people? Surely that $85,000 ranger setup can do more than mildly enhance your success at the state park fishing pier...

Instructional videos that aren't bassresource are just sales videos. I watch marling baits, typigpatrol, and underwater strike footage regardless of source...the underwater footage tells me more than some salesman ever could.

Grumpy old dudes don't bug me, unless they're exhibiting one of the above behaviors lol

I can be a little 'get off my lawn' at times myself

Most of the items you mentioned bother me too @thediscochef. Trespassing and trash especially. I have been a hunter for many years and trespassing on someone’s land is not cool. I always seek permission in advance.

Back right pocket! I have accidentally washed lots of backlash in the washer but it’s better than wrapping around the prop

Finding a guide fishing live bait on my secret spot.

Anglers calling line diameter “thick” and believe mono “stretches” more then FC.

Boaters on the water behaving like I did when a teen.

Getting out of bed at 0’ dark thirty and taking 20 minutes to move normally and that old grey haired man looking back at me in mirror.
