Super User slonezp Posted March 21, 2010 Super User Posted March 21, 2010 How much is your boat and gear worth to you? Also if you ever have someone else on your boat and get into an accident or somehow that person gets injured or someone on the other boat you'd want to be covered. I don't know what your financial situation is but boat insurance is relatively inexpensive. And God forbid something bad happens on the water you could be paying for that for the rest of your life. What happens if you cause an accident/injury on the water and have no insurance? You think you are in bad financial shape right now, that would ruin you. If you can't afford the insurance, don't take it out. Quote

R520dvx Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Boat insurance is pretty cheap ..... We carry full coverage including on water towing and some coverage for contents for less than $400 per year on a 21 ft Ranger and a 225HP engine. At least try to get some liability ...... it would be cheap. Most companies will let you pay quarterly. Probably be $50 or so for a quarter to protect yourself. Then you could add to it later if you want more coverage. Quote
basspro215 Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 ok thanks guys i will make sure i get coverage before i get out on the water Quote
Diablos Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 I have 16ft aluminum boat with a 30hp 4 stroke. Insurance with Progressive only costs me $180 per year with good coverage. I had the option of paying 45 per month for 4 months. Quote
stew6371 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 i got an online quote from progressive at $100 for liability only $25k-$50k-$10k. i have a 14ft boat with a 9.9 and valued at $1500 full coverage was $235 a year. Quote
RWHusker. Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Just like the others said, no insurance = no fishing in my book. On another note I just switched from Progressive to Allstate (they also have my vehicles and homeowners so Im sure there is a multi-line discounts). Progressive was raising my rate from $540 to $650 because my teenage son. I checked with Allstate and their "Premium" policy was $270. When I bought my boat I never checked and for 2 years I've been getting whacked because I didn't shop and drank the Progressive Kool Aid that because the sold the most the were the least expensive. All to say call your agent and get a quote. GO BIG RED Quote
1inStripes Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Went and picked up Burleys old boat last week and set up the insurance today. Just about got her ready for my maiden voyage as the captain. Quote
