Sellersrobe Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I have a couple set ups and am wondering what y'all think I should get next. I know most would say to get a crankbait set up but I'm no the biggest fan. Is there anything else I should get or are my bases covered? Dobyns Kaden 7' 1" ML Spinning Fast Action Crappy 13 fishing reel (gonna update this enxt) Dobyns Fury 7' 3" H Fast Action Abu Garcia 7:1 Revo SX Fenwick Eagle 7' M Fast Action 13 Fishing Inception 6:4 reel G Loomis E6X Swimbait MH MF Action Shimano Curado K 6:4 reel Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 13, 2021 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 13, 2021 Get a 7' 1" MH rod with a reel that has a gear ratio between 6.5:1 and 7.3:1. That's an all-purpose setup you can use for jigs, T-rigged worms/creature baits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and a whole lot more. 4 Quote

Super User WRB Posted December 13, 2021 Super User Posted December 13, 2021 The Dobyns F735HF is close enough to 7’1” MHF to meet your needs. I would get a Shimano Vanford for the ML rod and fish another season. Tom Quote

Just got a great deal on an slx combo on Facebook marketplace that came with a 7' 3" MH extra fast for $65. It should be perfect! 1 Quote

Seems he already has it with the Dobyns 4 power. 1 Quote

He's got a Fury 734 up there - which is a 'MH/F' despite Dobyns saying 'heavy'. The SLX MH/XF would be a good addition though...I've got 3 MH/F rigs myself...can't have too many of them because of their versatility. Quote

I like to throw things in the 3/8-1/2 oz. range (plus trailers where appropriate). Quote
CrankFate Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 It looks like you already got your answers. I would point out that those answers are good because they are not limited to just two specific rods or two specific brands. Brand loyalty is great, but sometimes it helps to sample new brands. And gear you weren’t thinking of. There’s a lot of good stuff out there. Don’t limit yourself. Quote
