My father worked for Sears his entire life.  Ted Williams had his own line of tackle sold through Sears stores.  My father took me to the store to meet him when I was small.  I remember him being a huge man.  He was one of the greatest hitters of all time and a fantastic angler.

Have to agree with Ted Williams as the greatest at both. Two other names that would make my list (golfball players ?)

Sam Snead was a B.A.S.S. member and bought one of the 1971 B/M Classic boats off Ray Scott:

Bobby Jones (with Buck Perry in photo below):

If you look at the cover on Buck Perry’s little Spoonplugging booklets, you’ll see the picture is of he and Bobby Jones fishing together back in 1954. The story made the pages of Outdoor Life at the time. All 3 of these guys (Buck, Sam, Ted) would compete together (against each other) in the World Series of Sport Fishing events back in the 1960s.

This pic is of Buck Perry with some fish (saltwater) from the 1964 event in Florida. Notice the names on the board behind Buck: Buck, Ted Williams and Sam Snead. Ray Ostrom who founded Rapala is also listed. Bobby couldn't compete because of his crippling syringomyelia, which eventually killed him.

Buck Perry.  Wow, haven't heard his name in a long time.  The grandfather of structure fishing.

Do a search, there have been a few epic spoonplugger threads.

Many years ago I remember watching one of the TV anglers who had a golfer on his show.  They played a round of golf on a course with a lot of water.  They would play a hole and then fish any water around the hole.  They came up with some kind of scoring system that incorporated the golf and the fishing.   I can't remember who it was but I remember it was fun to watch.  It was probably Bill Dance.  He liked to do things like that.  I have no idea who the golfer was.

I played little league, and caught the largest trout in an indoor pond, at a sportsman's show.  Does that count?  If not, my dog still thinks I'm the greatest at everything.
