Just wondering.

I put a “no-skunk” sticker on mine yesterday.   I grin when I look at it.  I have another one about bananas and fishing but I hesitate due to it being bigger.

thoughts?   Is your kayak festooned with stickers?

I do have one I got from the Coast Guard that has my info and an emergency contact # in case they find the kayak and not me.

Solid plan.

Not sure why every state doesn't require that.

Surely would save at least a few lives every year.

Besides helping to eliminate endangering rescue crews unnecessary.

Not a kayak - but my canoe was well 'stickered'.

Dunno how much I'm gonna put on the boat as yet.

I had stickers on my Wilderness Systems Commander. Some of the stickers designated my pro staff status. Other stickers were either from sponsorships I had, or sponsors of this site, and a few others from local bands that I liked. My Hobie Compass only has what it came with.

I believe every state should require a float plan and contact info to be affixed to kayak or canoe for every trip.    I also believe a ‘lost’ kayak or canoe should be reported as soon as possible to authorities just like is required for reporting a boating or auto accident.  I’m aware of 2 instances over the years when an empty kayak was discovered and a search was started only to find out that paddlers had got out of river and were safe.

I am pretty anal about letting someone know where I am, and when I launch and get off the water.  However, I don't have a lot of desire for the government to mandate it

Same here - wife gets the float plan before I leave - regular 'check ins' during the day, final call as I'm pulling out of the ramp parking lot.

Agree with not wanting it mandated - if people are stupid enough to not tell someone what their plan is...oh well.

Sounds good.

As long as your wife is the one heading into the elements to conduct your rescue.

Every motorized vessel is 'Registered' with numbers and documentation.

This doesn't really add up to me. How does a float plan save any time? Chances are it would be my wife that calls and relays the plan directly to dispatch. Someone would have to somehow figure out what car and what plan lines up with what kayaker that may or may not be in danger. Are registered vessels required to make a float plan? I'm not sure I see the correlation there either. I also don't think that a first responder gets to decide who is worthy of helping. I get it, no one wants to put another in harms way. That said, it's the responders choice to do that job. Complaining about it won't make the stupid go away. Sorry, I just do not agree with that attitude.

A float plan affixed to the kayak or canoe can help responders, if necessary, target early search efforts depending on where canoe or kayak is discovered and the information from an attached float plan.  I’m not sure where finding the paddler’s car was even mentioned.  Not everyone has a wife, and I’m betting there may be quite a few who don’t have family to inform of their plans.   No, registered vessels aren’t required to display a float plan, but then they have the registration number displayed on their craft, so that can be helpful in identifying the craft’s registered owner and start efforts to make contact.  And interpreting a displayed float plan as somehow helping decide “…who is worthy of helping” is quite the stretch.   And let’s face it, no rule, law, regulation or mandate will ever make the stupid go away.

A float plan affixed to the vessel? Make that a law? No. Not on board with that. I've always heard about displaying a float plan on the dash of your vehicle. Not sure how that helps either. No, sharing my plan with someone else along with your expected return will work better. Again, how does knowing the name of the owner of the boat fill in the gaps? How would knowing the name of a victim help anyone save them quicker?  My comment about who was worthy was more about the comment of only if my wife was rushing into danger to save me.

Stickers should have nothing to do with a float plan.

1 is playing.

Float plan can be life & death ....injured with no help coming soon enough.

Thread took on more seriousness than I imagined. Here was my jumping off point.

I will venture into the Pacific Ocean. I’ll put ID on my kayak. Makes perfect sense.  The coast guard doesn’t cover the lakes i bass fish. The sheriff dept does. They check on me all the time.

My age is showing now.  I forgot the complete S O S sequence.  Left off last 3 dots. Handy with seniors & vehicle horns.

I'm with schplurg, the only way I'm putting a sticker on anything is getting compensation for it.  Same with caps and tee shirts, if they advertise their name I don't buy it.  If it's free I'll wear it.

I have several on my kayak tackle box, but only my bait company on the kayak.

None on my fishing kayaks.  On my whitewater kayak, I'm considering putting a 'please be patient, student driver' sticker.  I've been beatering pretty bad as I transition from the canoe.
